44 special in lever gun

Post by mickbr »

Aside from getting a dedicated 44 special gun like the henry, was wondering if any of the 44 mag lever rifles got a better chance of feeding 44 special out of the box. Some options I am looking at- Marlin 94, Rossi 92, Win/miroku 92. I got a rossi 92 357 which handles 38 special pretty well... though I heard they can be the more problematic action normally. I don't know much about the 94's, are they inherently more capable of feeding a shorter case, or is it all the same game of tweaking OAL and bullet shapes? Main loads would be the speer 200 grain gold dot HP and probably 240 gn cast bullets. Low velocity. Whats your pick of action folks?

If you reload, you can just use magnum cases and avoid all that. Never tried actual .44 Sp. cartridges in my M1894.

yup I know but I have them on hand, so Id like to see how they do. Any chance they work better in one action or the other will probably influence the decision on which one

Just cycled some .44 Sp. Winchester 200 gr. Silvertips through the M1894SS, no issues.

I was wondering that myself. I just picked up a 1981 pre safety 1894 marlin. 44 mag,44 spl.
I picked up a box of 44 mags, the only 44 spl. were blazer so I passed on 44 spl.
I'm going to shooting soon. I also have a pair of ruger Blackhawk's in 44 spl. Great shooters!
