Re: Unasked-For AR Advice
Dang Jim...that advice would be good for that former Colorado congresswoman.......the one who sponsored a bill to eliminate high cap. mags.....according to her, "ahhhh, let th m have their big magazines, after they shoot the bullets they have to throw them out anyway."
Yea, they are among us.-----6

The original M16 was just about as dangerous for the guy behind it as the guy in front.
The AR’s are okay for range toys ut nothing I’ll ever bet my life on again.

Re: Unasked-For AR Advice
Don't you believe it, I know for a FACT that James Bond shot down a helicopter with only an AR7......
If more men loved and cherished their wives as much as I love bacon the world would be a much better place.
Re: Unasked-For AR Advice
I agree, somewhat. I had an AR years ago. Wasn't impressed and quickly dumped it and got an M1A....then another. Still like them, still have them.
Years later the kids got playing with ARs so I bought a Colt 6920. It is NOT the AR of years ago. It is very reliable, and we enjoy much improved mags compared to years ago. That said, it suffers from a marginal cartridge.
I have and have used AKs a fair amount, also. I like them, but they too have limitations.
My son bought a Galil Ace. A little heavy, but I like it. Good blend of AK/AR.
I'm curious, with your experience, what would you recommend for a semi-auto to "bet your life on"?

Re: Unasked-For AR Advice
I remember Q showing Bond the AR7, "25 caliber, high power round". My wife gets tired of my comments when seeing guns in movies, like the guy shooting a SAA in a pre-civil war pic...

The ignorance of elected officials always amazes me!
And makes me wonder if their constituents are even MORE ignorant.

I "found" an M14 after the M16 failure. Today my go to rifle for those type of things is a Springfield Scout Squad. Heck, it's what we should have had to begin with. I know for ground troops it's heavy, but for my uses it would have been perfect. Being a bit shorter would have been a bit easier to maneuver in tight confines.OldWin wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 8:07 amI agree, somewhat. I had an AR years ago. Re: Unasked-For AR Advice
my son has both an ak and an ar/15. he prefers the ak simply because its more reliable, less parts, and cheap ammo. easier to clean. i have an ar with stag upper magpul furniture and anderson lower. always keeped it lubed, no hiccups even after 400 rds. just shoot quality ammo.

Re: Unasked-For AR Advice
Yup. My second M1A was a Scout/Squad. I bought one as soon as they came out. I pulled the factory mount and installed an Ultimak instead. The trick to the weight is I ran a front sling mount off the Ultimak, then took an M14 front swivel and mounted it behind the buttplate on top. This way, it can be carried slung like a machine gun. I've humped mine many miles on snowshoes.jeepnik wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 2:26 pmI "found" an M14 after the M16 failure. Today my go to rifle for those type of things is a Springfield Scout Squad. Re: Unasked-For AR Advice
I’ve got a pair of 10’s and a 15 . I don’t look at them as self defense items or something like that . They’re used mostly to punch holes in paper and punch holes in some poor unsuspecting brown cloven hooved rats
Parkers , Mannlicher Schoenauer’s , 6.5mm's and my family in the Philippines !

Re: Unasked-For AR Advice
I'm thinking about selling my 10, maybe a couple 15's too.
