What are your favorite firearms drills.....?
(....my straight-flute carbide one for installing Williams FP's would be one kind of firearm drill.....but I mean the shooting kind....)
Here's one I like for handguns, and I can actually accomplish most of the time:
Put 5 shots in a 5 inch circle at 5 yards within 5 seconds.
(I think I like it cuz it is easy to remember.... )
Then there's 2 shots into each of 3 paper plates in 4 seconds, at 5 yards, and you're supposed to shoot them in the order numbered (your buddy puts the targets up and you face away from them until the shot timer start-beep). I am nowhere near that fast though.
I really haven't done any 'rifle' drills though, but would be interested if others have.

Sounds useful and fun, gonna have to try that!
Have you hugged your rifle today?
Re: What are your favorite firearms drills.....?
I like the failure to stop drill. Two to chest one to head. When conditions allow I use multiple targets and add movement, no shoot targets and targets that make you prioritize.
I’ll often go with a friend and one of us will set the targets at various positions, both right to left and distance. The shooter has his back turned while this goes on. Then turns draws and engages the targets.

Walking behind the dogs until they point/flush then shoot the bird!
Or
On the line at the bunker, load 2, call for the target and repeat.
Seriously tho any and all practice be it. Dry fire drills or live fire is good, retains muscle memory, recoil impulse is always good to feel.

Re: What are your favorite firearms drills.....?
at 25 yards an updrill, failure drill jeepnik mentioned and the box drill which is same drill but for two targets.
Also a snapshot starting standing, kneeling and then prone at 50 yards. Also teaching myself to shoot left handed at the moment. All just for fun.

Re: What are your favorite firearms drills.....?
Another fun one is using a handgun to provide suppression fire on a prone target at ranges beyond 25 yds. The idea is to keep a fairly slow but consistent rate of fire with hits close enough to keep a shooters head down. This would be done to give (no we don’t actually send anyone down range) another shooter time and space to maneuver for a clear shot.
You’d be amazed how many rounds you can get on target out ranges over 100 yds with practice. Yea, I know handguns are mostly a short range proposition, but think about Las Vegas. A practiced long range handgun shooter might have kept the shooter’s head down and might even have gotten lucky and connected

I'm a Mozambique & El Presidente drill kind of guy. That's my go to drills.
Yeah I cut my teeth on Cooper and Ayoob back in the 80's.
I mix in other stuff of course to keep it interesting. I'm doing a lot of left hand shooting these days and have always done a good bit of shooter down drills but those two are my staples.

Re: What are your favorite firearms drills.....?
The El Presidente and Vise Presidente I'm familiar with but what is the Mozambique? I shot IPSC for 10 years or so and shot with some world champions. Ran 3 miles per day and shot 500 rounds per week but the difference in me and the champions was all mental. I even learned to control my pulse and respiratory rate and once in a while I'd beat one of them, but not often. Great memories though and hopefully some of those reflexes would kick in during a stressful episode.

I dont have any drills but I enjoy shooting a pistol at 100 yards. My Glock 20 hs proven to be a reliable 100 yard performer against half size silhouettes. When the weather cooperates I'm going to take my new long slide 10mm out to 200 and see why I can do (maybe further depending on how that goes).

Ron, I believe the Mozambique drill was used in the African country Mozambique state. The white settlers were being killed by the natives. They found out that it took two shots to the chest and one to the head to stop the doped up natives.
I reckon that I will be corrected on this.

Re: What are your favorite firearms drills.....?
I always thought since I live in a rural area I should come home everyday and walk back to the shooting range we have set up or some other safe place and just fire one round at one target regardless of the time of day and maybe on Fridays do it left-handed or something. I did that briefly but then as the kids got older and I got busier and worked more and got more distracted I fell out of that habit, but that would be a good easy drill for people who live in rural areas, and would see to it that they rotated their carry ammo.

For shotguns a 25 shot round of skeet and or trap . For rifles three or five shot groups at 100 yards from the bench off very stable bags .

Sorry for the wrong information about the three shot drill.

...makes me wish I could sing, just so's I could hear it; maybe somebody can make one of those photoshopped videos so it looks like ol' Barbara is singing it...
"Students, associates and other “family” members of Gunsite, the pioneering firearms training academy founded by Jeff Cooper, have honored The Mozambique Drill by converting the noun into a verb, writing some lyrics and setting them to the melody of the song Dominique as recorded by “The Singing Nun.” The unsung writers of The Mozambique Two-Step never copyrighted the material because it was thought highly unlikely that Barbra Streisand would ever want to sing it.
CHORUS:
Mozambique him, Mozambique him,
If he fails to hit the ground
After two well-placed rounds!
Shoot between the eyes and lips,
No, NOT between the hips,
That should put the goblin down!
VERSE:
With your sights on center chest
Twice your trigger you have pressed.
If two don't stop the fight,
A head-shot should set it right!
CHORUS
VERSE:
It is best to use a slug
Big enough to stop a thug.
Calibers that start with four
Will better drop them to the floor!
CHORUS
VERSE:
Stop this talk of “failure drills,”
For it denigrates our skills.
Failure is a word so bleak,
But I rejoice at “MOZAMBIQUE”!
CHORUS
ADDITIONAL VERSE:
In full evening dress you stroll
When accosted by a troll
Who seizes your maiden fair.
Three quick shots to save the day,
Reload, press-check, you're on your way,
And you've scarcely mussed a hair.
CHORUS
ADDITIONAL VERSE:
Mozambique the bloody creep!
For he's been breathing far too long
and you must shut him down.
'Tis unmitigated act
that you need now and that's a fact.
Thank Heaven you know how!
CHORUS
CONTEMPORARY ADDITIONAL VERSE:
If on the dusty Arab street,
Foul Osama you should meet,
With his arms upraised, in full jihadi call!
Mozambique without delay,
'Tis the order of the day,
And you'll do a welcome service for us all!"
