"Variety is the spice of life", and that applies to 22 handguns too. I wonder how it'll stack up against the Ruger SR22. That being said I'm an old fanny burp that just can't like big square trigger guards no matter how practical they may be. I'm a Browning Buckmark/Ruger 22/45 kind of guy.

IMHO, "22 LR" handguns are either:

a) squirrel-hunters
- Ruger Mk-1/2/3 semiautos
- Contender single-shots (scoped)
b) plinkers
- Single-Six revolvers
- Charter Arms revolvers
c) CCW backups
- NAA Mini-Revolvers
- Beretta-21's or the Taurus generics

Whatever niche the Taurus fits into, it can compete with the ones I cite....

I am with you. Life is too short to mess with ugly guns. All these "new" things coming out look alike. Square. Plastic. Ugly.

Taurus burnt their bridge with me over poor customer service. I now avoid all their products.

To me, this new Taurus resembles most of the smaller auto loading pistols on the market. Including some in my family.

Recently I had my Taurus 44 mag totally cleaned by a gunsmith and years of sand, dust, cedar needles and such was removed. It now functions as well as when new. It is a magna ported 4 incher that is my deer lease handgun. Loaded with 3 240 grain full power loads and 3 snake shot, it has seen a lot of outdoor service.
When the darn weather goes back to warm and dry, I have a lot of catch up practice to do.

Well ... not trying to be a smart alleck but I'll pass. I don't care for plastic pistols to start with, and I agree with Ji about the trigger guard and the others about the "ugliness".

I think I'll just stick with my Ruger Std Auto. It's darn near as old as me and in better shape, so it'll do.

I'm assuming they mostly copied someone else's design but I don't recognize it. Does anyone know what it's meant to mimic?

IDK about "meant to mimic", but it looks very similar to several other plastic .22 autoloaders, like the MP-22 Compact.

Can't imagine that thing hanging in my safe with my Hi Standard Supermatic, or S&W .22 revolvers. It might sell, but at the MSRP it's too ugly for me to even take a 2nd look.

I'd add one more category to your list:

d) trainers

Getting a 1911-style .22LR pistol is a great way to cheaply practice, or introduce young shooters and/or women to handgun shooting. The Ruger 22/45 series is great for this (not a "pure" 1911, but close enough). :D
