Since 'irritable bowel syndrome' and 'brain-fog after eating' are common things patients have that doctors have a hard time figuring out and fixing, this has proven to be an interesting, and I think clinically useful test to do for some patients.

Unfortunately if your doctor is 'employed' he or she isn't incentivized to read about or do such tests, but at least it is out there.
Initially everybody blew all this off because when it first started it was all thought to be about gluten and there are a lot of exaggerated claims and things that didn't make sense. Now that we can do more specific testing a lot of things are coming together that I think are going to be clinically very useful.

Interesting Doc. And is it just me or is stuff like this on the rise? Did we get all this irratable bowel complaints etc way back in the day or were we more often dying before the age it became prevalent?
Re: Food for (medical) thought....
We were probably eating healthier back in the day. My Grandparents had a big garden to supplement what little they bought. On my Dad's side, good wells and a large garden got them through the Dirty Thirties. They raised wheat, cattle, pigs, and a little corn. They would go out and catch grasshoppers in the mornings. The grasshoppers were thrown into the metal water tank which the cattle drank out of because there were catfish in there. The catfish disposed of the food destroying grasshoppers and were used as food once in a while.

Re: Food for (medical) thought....
All makes sense to me.
WRT irritable bowels - mine always seemed to be after eating too much chili (with Tabasco) or after a late dinner of too much red meat. So, I rarely do that anymore.
Lots of bad habits have been discarded with aging. Doc, could that be attributed to wisdom?
