Prayer Request

Post by Griff »

For the past several weeks, on top of the disruption of construction, Mrs. Griff has been ill. She's been diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus, and due to inflammation, she's been unable to eat any solid foods. Between this and not sleeping well (if at all), she's been hospitalized for the past week. Tomorrow am they're going to put a feeding tube into her stomach. She has to get this done in order to gain strength she'll need to stand up to the rigors of the chemo/radiation treatment the oncologist sez is necessary. She's told me and the boy to not come to the hospital, as she doesn't want us to "hover"...

I could stand a little help.

Griff,

I'm very sorry to hear that your missus is so ill. Being at her side is not "hovering". It is fulfilling that part of the age old marriage vow where a man pledges himself to his wife "in sickness and in health". Hopefully better times are coming, meanwhile best wishes and prayers for a full recovery.

After putting a tube for her to get nutrition thru, she's back at home, and feeling somewhat stronger, but still in some discomfort... is not the ideal patient... tho' I suspect that could describe any of us... this nursing gig deserves all the accolades it seems to garner! Why are those that are under the care of others called patients? It seems that the those that care for others need all the patience they can muster! :D

Hang in there and hover. The weather is too cold and wet to enjoy being outdoors anyhow.

It sounds as if you are getting her going in the right direction. Please try to get her to understand that she is the one being cared for. She sounds as if she is used to caring for everyone else. Once she is healthy again, she can go back to being herself, but she must let others take care of her for a while for that to happen. Don't let her complaints get you down. She may complain, but she is truly complaining about not being her usual self. Let it roll off your back and keep caring for her.

We are praying for you both. If you need something, just ask.

Well... we still have some more testing to go thru... but... the docs did a bone marrow test and it came up positive for bone cancer. The doc flat out said, "there's no cure..." There's still some testing to go, before we know the extent or any kind of prognosis. Workin' at keeping some semblence of normalcy... Hasn't sunk in yet... I think I'll keep up the denial phase for as long as possible... otherwise I might lose it. Right now she has me trying to learn how to do all the "bill payin" she's always handled... they got a little outta whack last month when she was in the hospital so much... Now the tax assessor wants a re-application for the farm exemption... ah carumba! Government... shysters, one and all.

Without going into the details, early this morning my wife passed away. She was under hospice care. And I'm assured, by the nurse in attendance, she suffered no pain. She never regained enough strength to undergo any chemo or radiation therapy to treat the cancer... And, I can only hold on to the hope that at least she didn't suffer the ravages experienced by that treatment, in addition to what she'd already suffered.

I thank you for all your prayers, and your support. May God bless each and every one of you.
