Santa Got Me 25 Pounds Of Brass

Post by Blaine »

I've been wanting one of these for a long time. Got a great Black Friday deal on it.
It's on it's way from England.

5/4 Size
4 Valve
Bb Helicon (sousaphone)

These were the first iterations of the sousaphone at the end of the 19th Century. Every so often a company will make new ones.

Blaine that is so cool! 4 valves though? I didn't think the originals had the F (4th valve). Will make you a versatile modern instrument with the old retro look.

YesSir..the first valve slide is on top within easy reach, as well. This is almost as cool as the 19-4 I got a few weeks ago....Santa has been very happy with me this year. :? :? Well, I tricked him anyway...

Wow Blaine it's just beautiful! I haven't had a tuba in years. Biggest brass I have is a Baritone, a 'bone, a couple of trumpets and our old family cornet. The cornet is a Conn big bore made in 1911 and rebuilt about 20 years ago. Has all the slides to tune it in C or Bb.

That's great Blaine, waiting to hear you play. I sure miss the old Brass marching bands.

Ray, that is simply enchanting.

Blaine, do you have any experience with the fiberglass Sousaphones? They must surely have different tonal qualities from ones of brass.

Great to carry on a parade, but the tone suffers a bit. I don't really expect the Helicon to match a 12,000 buck professional-grade tuba.
