Mangled brass
So, I finally was able to take my Rossi 92 out to the range. All went well except for the way it chewed on the case mouth when ejecting spent rounds:
Sorry for the so-so pics; had to use my phone. Has anyone else experienced this as well? If so, what to do? I am about to tear this rifle down to do some Steve's mods, so is there something that can be done to the extractor to keep it from doing this to the brass? TIA.

Re: Mangled brass
Perhaps that’s an oversprung ejector and the dent is coming from the spent cartridge flipping hard onto the receiver frame or bolt. Steve’s mods fix that. After the mods the brass will form a nice pile off to the right a couple of feet away.
Kind regards,
Tycer

Re: Mangled brass
I don't know if I'd be overly concerned about a couple of "knicks" in the case mouth... IMO, that's well short of mangled...

Yeah, but - it may be just the pic, but IMO the rest of the case looks like it's been used a few times too many...…

Re: Mangled brass
Wow, that is some knarly looking brass!!
Re: Mangled brass
My 44 Magnum Puma will ding the case mouths sometimes when I smartly (quickly with force), run the lever. Easy levering hasn't seemed to do anything different to the brass. As noted above, Steve's CD is one of the best things an M92 owner can have, second to ammo...

Re: Mangled brass
Yes, I have Steve's video and parts. Haven't yet had time to tear the rifle down, but will soon. Hopefully, his spring will eliminate this problem. As for the brass, it was to spec. Both .38 and .357 were nicked equally, and this is the first rifle I've had that did that to the brass (except my Saiga .223, which dented the case mouth and body until I did a couple of mods that stopped it). Time to hit the bench....

Lee sells a chamfer tool that can smooth up the mouth edges. I use mine de-burr the mouth after trimming the length to spec.

Re: Mangled brass
Mine did that until I installed a reduced power ejector spring from Steve's guns. Steve is a member here.
