Seeking recomendations on cast bullet supplier

Post by wm »

My preferred and local (you have no idea how much I have saved driving 2 miles to pick up rather then paying shipping) cast bullet supplier (Dardas bullets) is out of business and out of stock.

So any one feel strongly about the quality and price of cast bullet seller?

I should mention I use cast pistol bullets in 38spl, 357 mag, 41mag, 44 spl. 44 mag, 45 ACP/AR, 45 Colt, 30 WCF, 38-55, and 35 Rem.

Badman Bullets. The other cast bullet supplier I buy from provides Rucker Bullets. They're:

I have been happy with Missouri Cast bullets and recently tried a box of Acme that were ok.

Marshall Stanton at Beartooth Bullets has the BEST hard cast alloy I've found, and the best bullet selection for my purposes.

Well I wasn't going to respond since I cast my own I know of no other suppliers, but then you asked if anyone feels strongly. So yes, I do feel strongly that if it is possible one should cast their own. It gives one complete control over size, hardness and quality to say nothing of supply. Since I have a good supply of brass, primers, powder and moulds all during the Obama years I had no issues keeping shooting.

Those evil times can return, just sayin'.

I've used a lot of Meister for handgun loads when I don't cast my own. Good quality at an affordable price.

Having lost all my bullet molds and casting equipment in the recent Carr Fire, I found it necessary to buy some bullets. Several of the people I shoot silhouette with recommended the moly coated bullets sold by Bear Creek Supply:

https://www.bearcreeksupplybullets.com/

If you buy over $130 worth, shipping is free, so I ordered some .380" 250 gr. for my .38-55, some .312" 115 gr. for my .32-20, and some .431" 205 gr. for my .44-40. Hardness rated a 7 on my Saeco tester, which equals 10.7 BHN, so not real hard but certainly good enough for what I needed. Bullet weights vary by about 3 gr., but they do shoot very well for me and I am not getting any leading at all.

That being said, I am in the process of replacing my molds and casting equipment and will go back to rolling my own as soon as I can.

Have a look at this site>>>>>>>> Matt's Bullets. He has all all of the calibers you listed I think. I have never had a problem with any I use.

+1. I agree. Best quality cast bullets that I have been able to find. I use them for 30-30, 32 WS, 35 Rem, 375 W, 444 and 45-70.

Yep! Good 'ole Cat could not have said it better. For a guy like yourself who shoots a lot of different calibers, it would more than pay for you to make your own. Although you don't need to go as far as Cat or me, I can proudly say, with a couple of hundred moulds, that I can make any gun go bang as much as I want to....with only the price of a primer, some powder, some electricity, and a lot of time, on my part.

Maybe your wealthy and don't need the trouble, learning curve, or maybe don't have the time and I understand that....but......if your economically challenged like a few of us here and LOVE to shoot lots and lots, it's a near no brainer to cast.

It's NOT rocket science. Start with one mould in an easy caliber, like a 357 and there's many of us here who can answer your questions and give you guidance.----6

Mike makes excellent machine cast bullets. Been using him when I don't have the time to cast my own.
