Range time this morning.

I bought a set of Lyman sights for the Marlin/ Glenfield Model 30 and finally had a chance to put them on the .30-30 over the weekend. The Lyman 66 and a globe front really made this little carbine fun to shoot. Still working on making up a perfect cast load, started with a 180 Gr. LFPGC over 18 Gr. of IMR 4198 that shoots well from my '50s vintage Model '94. Shooting at 50 yds the first five round group was an 1 1/8". The groups opened up from there a bit but I think it was me. I was rushing it because I had a lot to do today. I moved up to the 25 yd line and ran some different loads through the S&W TRR8. I really like shooting that thing. I'd bought a factory box of Hornady 125 gr XTPs. The fireball alone would be deadly! Holy cow!




I've had a bunch of .30-30s through my hands over the years, but I have to say the Glenfield is the smoothest, most accurate 30WCF I've ever had.

Get out there and shoot something! Winter is coming!!

There's a lot of things I'd like to shoot but I don't think they would taste good..

Yea Jason, the economy priced guns...when an identical gun is available in a deluxe model etc..... seem to be the best shooters..for real...I've noticed that over the years. I think it's because that when we shoot those guns, we just shoot em and don't worry about scratching the wood or damaging the $1,000 scope.

Don't ya just hate having range time and then have to rush off to do supposed "meaningful work"?---6

I definitely wanted to stay a little longer but had to meet my concrete guy to go over plans for the garage floor. So all was not wasted.

Todd, it's a Model 30, not a 30A. The 30A had a full magazine and pressed checkering, if I remember correctly.

I have a beat to death model 30, made in 1969 . if I told a shooter to close their eyes, handed them the rifle and work the lever they would think it was some kind of one off custom gun. action runs like a sewing machine. shoots just like Yours. just not as purty.

Winter got here last night a few inches on the ground this morning, to early as the leaves haven`t even all fallen yet which we need to rake up and cover the septic line with.

I bet, our temps dropped about 20 degrees from yesterday. Still in the 50s though, so it's not too bad. I hope it warms back up a bit, I've got some more shooting to do. The front sight on the new Marlin CST is too tall, it shoots several inches low, So I either have to file the front sight, which I really don't want to do, or order a shorter front sight from XS if they even have them. Heading there next.
