Finally, Some Fair Shootin'
For the past several years, I've not attended any of the "long" range side matches at any bigger cowboy action matches... Usually due to scheduling conflicts, (more side matches than time permits, so they've overlapped).
Well, yesterday's second long side match didn't interest me... so I carted my Sharps and '94 Winchester over there and entered. About the time I thought I had the Sharps sighted in, I went to adjust the windage on the front sight... and it moved in the dovetail! Little 10¢ set screw had come loose in that $350 sight!
So, I knuckled down and concentrated on the lever category. 6, shots 3 @ 200 yard and 3 @ 300 yards to qualify for the shoot-off... 2 fellars had already tied at 5 hits a-piece. Ran my 5 shots and was settling down for the 6th shot when the range officer claimed... you already qualified, save your ammo.
So it boiled down to waiting for the all those that qualified for the single shot to shoot their scored runs at a ½ life-size buffalo @ 300 yards, with a separate swinger in position of the heart (maybe a little high anatomically speaking, and certainly a little oversized).
One point per hit on the body, 2 points per hit on the heart. I shot 2nd of the 3 of us and had to make 6 hits and 1 hit on the heart to tie the first shooter. I think I just lucked into a second heart shot, and the other 4 were on the body... grouped fairly well around the heart. One a little higher than the rest. WOOHOO! I'm a WINNER! Now, I only have to wait around till tomorrow night to find out what the prize is... I'll post of a picture of the buff and whatever the prize is as I get a chance.
Used to bug the heck outta me when I'd shoot well in one of these matches and have some old fanny burp come along and beat me... now that I'm one of old fanny burbs, it doesn't bother me so much!
For now, it's off to the safety meeting for the main match, (where I'll probably finish last in my category and last overall, cause I like going slow. Why don't they have a buckle for last?

A dear old fanny burp once told us kids these words of wisdom,
Youth and enthusiasm will never overcome age and treachery (I sometimes change it to experience). Griff you have the experience.
Job well done!
Might I recommend blue locktite on your sight screws...

When I went out yesterday to take a pic of the target, they'd taken it down... anyway, here's a pic of the buckle I won!

Mighty fine Griff, it has been a lot of years since I have done any match shooting.
