Old dog, new tricks

Post by OldWin »

I've posted pics of this old 32WS trapper before. I built it for my dad about 30 years ago. It's a good shooter and he has got it in his head, at 77, he wants to hunt with it this year. He was worried about the sights, especially in low light.
I ordered one of these barrel mounts for a Burris FF3 from Turnbull Restorations. Haven't shot it yet, but it looks pretty good. Should help him out. If it works well, I'm going to get another for myself.

I figure its a good option on the old ones that aren't drilled and tapped too. You can remove it and it leaves no trace. They make a reciever mount version for rifles that are drilled but I think it puts the sight too high.

That's cool! My dad has a Fast Fire on a S&W .22 and really likes it.
Hope he bags a good one! :D

Thank's guys. He shot a spikehorn last year with a 336 Marlin trapper we built. I mounted a 1-4 Leupold shotgun scope on it for him.
I was in my stand and didn't know. When I came walking out in the dark he was sitting there waiting with it all loaded, gutted and ready to go. Not bad for 76. He's a character, for sure. :D

My dad's the same age. Always full of surprises. :D
He spent his late 60's sailing the Caribbean and is still always on the go.

Good for him, Jason! I like stories like that.
My dad's mother lived to be 100. Still pretty sharp and still hoofing it around as well as I do at 51.
Tough people!

Nice! If you work it over with a little steel wool, it'll look like it belongs there! :)
Have you hugged your rifle today?

Haha yeah. I like that it looks like its from the same era.
They started making those Fasfires about 1896, right?

THATS where my Burris FF3 is!!!! I was looking for that high and low.....should have known after your visit. Geeze, weren't the Colts enough?

Hey! For real, Pops ain't gonna like that stupid looking gizmo on an old rifle. If he sees someone in the woods, he's liable to hide the whole rifle under the leaves for fear of being embarrassed.

Spring $60 for one of these mounts so you don't hurt the rifle, then go rob a long eye relief scope (not from me!) from another gun and make your dad proud.....not feeling embarrassed always looking over his shoulder.----6 :D

Well thats why I mounted it on his trapper. He can put it under his coat........buffalo or whatever. :D
Yeah, the guy that makes those is on the scout rifle forum. Those are a nice setup.
And no way, bro. That Fastfire was mine........I'm pretty sure. :D
