Blaine and Fred tomato gravy
I put the recipe for tomato gravy on the pork chop post instead of starting a new. I thought I had better let you know where it is and any one else that is wondering about such fine cuiseine but I can't spell that word right. hope ya'll try it with on some grits.

Jerry, if you ever get down this way again we have a place here in Plant City called Fred's Southern Kitchen that has tomato gravy on the buffet every morning for breakfast.
Love it!

I learned to eat grits while Uncle Sam was telling me what to do, when to do it, and how high to jump. Tomato gravy sounds good on them. We used to have grits in the morning with watery eggs and bacon that had somehow had the flavor removed. The grits were the best tasting part of the meal.

I've had good mess halls and horrible mess halls. The Stockade Guard's Mess Hall on Ft Lewis was better than outstanding, and after that the mess hall at Ft Clayton in Panama was very tolerable. Breakfast was usually the best meal. If you had everything they offered for breakfast, you didn't need to eat until supper. But, the grits were always horrible. Even the Brothers had trouble forcing them down. I couldn't do it.piller wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2018 4:49 pm I learned to eat grits while Uncle Sam was telling me what to do, when to do it, and how high to jump. Tomato gravy sounds good on them. Re: Blaine and Fred tomato gravy
I talked my wife into mixing up some of this stuff tonight.
I'll get back to y'all.
Update: Tried the tomato gravy with some thick cut pork chops and grits tonight. It's a winner. I will have this dish again.

I'll give y'all a secret about grits. The longer you cook them the better they get. If you start them in a standard pot and transfer them over to a crock pot the night before you'll wake up to a much sweeter, more tender dish. Make sure to make them extra loose so they have enough water. In the old days when folks had wood burning stoves a lot of people used to keep a pot of grits going on the back of the stove almost all the time.

Honestly? I'd take refries before grits. With salsa and fried taters and eggs.
