I am sorry for your loss. Dads are really special people that teach us so much about life and living. I'm very blessed that mine is still with us. He is 82.

I know how you're feeling, 10 years later and I still miss my pops. He was my best friend and my best man. He never let me down and was always there when I needed him. I just sold my home (51 years) that he raised us in back in November, and it was pretty heart breaking to finally leave the old homestead for good. At least I still have his rowing dory, 1903 Springfield, type 99 Arisaka, and Jap cavalry saber. I'm sure you have some cool things your dad left you to always remind you of him.

Sorry to hear, Gunny. Lost my FIL two years ago next month. He was a great guy and we miss him every day. He made my wife who she is.
Still have my dad (76). That will be a loss I can't measure.

If it's any help to you, I ease my loss by remembering the good times we had. :)

Aye... gone for 9 years now, and... although "only" my step-father, my dad was the guy that would drag me along, made me sit there and fish with him for halibut, the rare tuna and sea bass, taught me to throw the mackerel and barracudas back... just where to smack a shark on the head with a ball-peen hammer he carried just for that purpose... from the time I was about 6-½ to when I was ten, it was every, (ok, maybe it wasn't "EVERY", but sure seemed like it!), Saturday, Sunday and school holiday, for vacations it was to some freshwater lake for MORE fishin'. When I was ten, just sittin' fishin' lost its luster (for me), and he asked me what I wanted to do! I loved the boats, we'd had 3 by then, and thought water-skiing would be cool! The next boat was more ski oriented than fishin', although he still went with a neighbor on his "weekends", (had Tues & Weds off), while Sis & I were in school.

At 15, who wouldn't want a Hemi under the gas pedal? :P
Whether fishin' or skiin', time spent with my dad was never dull!!! (Except on those rare occasions when the fish weren't bitin'! And with him, those were rare days, indeed!

My dad has been gone at 53 in 1962, and I still want to take a gun and walk the woods with him I am 79 now. Reckon it's just the way it is.
