Good job Nath. I saw a coyote this morning while taking the children to school. It was stalking a neighbor's chickens. I need to do some predator calling. I've seen some of the guys around here cruising the area with sight dogs. Greyhounds and Whlippets crossed with Airdale or similar. They look like Jess but are much larger.

Nath....I miss your "glare" at the fox. :D

That fox looks pretty big....how much do they weigh in your neck of the woods?. I once shot one that weighed 18.5 pounds and the taxidermist said it was the biggest he ever saw as females usually weigh 8-10 pounds with males from 10-12. -----6

They vary in size. My heaviest was 23lb but mostly I would say they are 11-17lb.

I was out last night , stalking on three. Got busted by the first and second but the third I got. A 70 yarder.
It was difficult going, no wind and crunchy frost underfoot.

I saw a roadkill fox yesterday. Very small. Probably a kit but it so mangled it was hard to tell much about it. Lots of eagles in this winter so maybe one of them will eat it.

This one was in my backyard yesterday until I let the Rhodesian Ridgeback out. It had killed a rabbit and was trying to keep a feral cat from getting it.

Aguilla makes a Super Colibri round which comes out of a Henry .22 lr lever action without enough noise to be heard 30 feet away. It goes 3 inches into a normal pine 2x4 from 15 feet. I wonder if that would do the job on a fox in your back yard? With no noticeable recoil, you can keep it on target and work the lever quite fast. 5 or 10 bullets in about 2 or 3 seconds is possible with some practice.

Buddy of mine forwarded me this pic of a coyote with a lifeless Jack Russell in its mouth.
image.jpg
Apparently the pic was taken not far from here by a game cam. Story has it that this yote is terrorizing this neighborhood- hmm I'm thinking nobody there owns a gun or is willing to use one!
If I see foxes I'll let them walk( most of the time), being a non invasive they play a vital part BUT if I see a yote I'll do all I can to kill it! Our deer herd has been hurt thanks to coyotes.

Keep up the fox killin Nath!

Coyotes were terribly close last night and unusually vocal. One just outside the glow from our porch light started out doing single yaps until he/she got our dogs barking. Then came that babble of voices they do when a couple or three get together, still just outside the lighted glow. Must have gone on for a solid 5 minutes. We have a Chihuahua/Yorkie that weighs all of 3 lbs. and I'm sure bro coyote would consider a tasty snack. Trouble is, she thinks she weighs 125 lbs. and is invincible.

In Texas, we are allowed to use night vision or thermal imaging devices to hunt coyotes at night. There are some rules such as not hunting in town and having a license. We still have some problems with coyotes, but not as many problems as there would be if they couldn't be hunted. Coyotes are smart enough to learn where it is best to avoid. They do tend to hang out not too far from town and learn that pets are an easy meal, until the owners finally get angry and do something about it. A former Governor had to shoot a coyote as it attacked his dog while the Governor was out jogging with his dog along for the fun. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 05323.html

I'm glad to see that Rick Perry carries. I don't know about our Gov. but I do know her hubby does.
