Re: huricanes and tornados
I have a SIL with her handicapped husband, her daughter with a huge Great Dane, and another SIL's son all in the general Tampa area.
SIL and hubby won't leave, her daughter wont or can't and the other SIL's son was injured in a car wreck not long ago that totaled his vehicle so he's stuck.
They are all close to that bay and I hope they make it through in one piece.
Were it me I would have packed up and run like hell as fast as I could.
May God have mercy on those that didn't evacuate. IRMA won't.

Re: huricanes and tornados
I'm just never sure why folks who live in coastal areas prone to hurricanes seem so surprised when every decade or so there is a huge hurricane....
Kind of like bears if you live in Montana, frostbite if you live in Alaska, tornados if you live in Oklahoma, or socialist lib-tards if you live in Massachusetts; it just is the bad stuff that goes along with the good stuff for that locale.
I certainly pray the damage will be minimal, but this isn't something people couldn't predict would happen; they happen every year, and some really bad ones happen every hundred years. If you don't want a 1% risk each year of a 'hundred-year storm', then either live elsewhere, or build a home capable of surviving 130 mph winds and ten feet of water. It's just reality, like it or not...

Re: huricanes and tornados
Well we just got our power back last night at midnight.
I am really surprised we got it back on so soon.
We had some damage to the house .....a leak adjacent to the chimney....
And tons of tree damage
That row of branches is about 200' long.....and that's just the beginning....
I have 4 or 5 trees down in the back yard that I have not gotten to yet. All uprooted....
And one tall tree leaning towards the house that has to be cut down....and from the top down
One almost got my neighbors bass boat.... Wind bands and rain were unbelievable.....
but it was not as bad as they predicted.
Other than that, all is well....
Thanks for the Prayers!
Blaine.....I live 10 miles south of the Daytona track....about 9 miles straight west of Ponce Inlet.....as the crow flies...
A lot of people down south evacuated and the ******* thing chased them all through the south!

Glad to hear that you came through it OK.
I wonder how well the wild game made it in your area?

+1 to glad you are OK. I know you will be cautious during the cleanup. Lots of hazards. Stay safe.

Re: huricanes and tornados
At least up north when tornados hit, the downed trees are 'nice' in the sense that many of us heat with wood; sadly down there I'm guessing there's no bright-side to the downed trees. With air-conditioning being more vital there than heat, you also lose helpful shade-trees.
