Hello from Virginia Need a gunsmith recommendation

Post by Torqueguy »

Hello folks
I was fortunate enough to find your site and hopefully you can help me. I own a 1952 Marlin 39a. Its Ballard rifled, pre the microgroove stuff. I bought this on gunbroker because it was in good shape, on the outside anyway. Once I tried to load it it jammed right away. I broke the gun down and realized the prior owner removed or lost some unnecessary parts such as the cartridge guide, the cartridge stop etc. I have added and replaced what I could find but it still has feeding issues.

I am hoping someone here can recommend a good gunsmith because I've been humbled. I brought the gun to a local gunsmith that had it in his shop for 8 months without touching it so I'm taking it back.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can recommend a good smith that knows what is going on with this gun. I wanted an old 39a for a long time and I have yet to shoot this thing.

Thanks again and regards

Welcome to the forum !

You might be able to help yourself somewhat by checking this schematic, to find out what (if any) part is missing.

If one is, and you are unable to repair it yourself, it might behoove you to at least order the part(s) for the gunsmith, to speed things up.

Welcome aboard! :D

Good luck on saving your rifle. I like the idea of ordering parts. Who knows, you may be able to save her yourself!

Hello

Its really nice to make so many friends at 58. Many thanks for the welcomes and the Blessings. I've been living with this misfeed for a year now. I replaced all internal parts except the elevator and the rocker. Jack First has them but I don't know if this is for a 1952. I think I'm going to try Precision because I'm going to have the thing Teflon coated.

I know it will ruin the collector value but I have Belgian SA's and 1885's for that. I have Miroku SA in .22 short, 18" Twist with clipped coils , sighted in for CCI Mini Caps with a Leupold 2x7 for hitting whiffleballs at 75 yards.

Thanks
