So it's snowing here, figured today would be a good day to get the wood stove going in the shop, heat up the casting furnace and pour so 60 gr .257 for my 25-20. Just spent 15 minutes looking for the mold. Has anyone seen my mold?
Problem is it's been years since I've casted anything, found my furnace( not where I thought it was), found a .429-200 mold and my .32 Maxiball mold in the process. So now where by the grace of God did I put the mold?

HA! Just found it!
In a bucket of lead chunks was apparently the last place I left it! NEI 257-65GC 2 cavity mold.
Just started a fire in the stove, now a couple hours and I can start making some spring plinkers.

I have an old milk crate in the basement where all my molds, mold handles, club, gloves, etc. all stay together. Just set up my pot and grab some lead. Then sort through the milk crate to find whatever mold I want that day.
If I had more room I'd love to have all the molds inventoried by caliber in drawers. But that just takes too much valuable space for my gun room.

Yeah, I have occasionally mislaid a mold myself .

I spent an hour and a half yesterday with my new Arsenal .258 mold (all the crinky old back will tolerate), now somewhat north of 1200 of those little 70-grainers counting previous production. This should last a while -- so I'll be searching for my .25 cal mold one of these years wondering "where the h?". Although I have a spot on a shelf where I keep all the molds that use the Lee 6-cavity handles, so that usually saves my bacon.

Somewhere over 46-½ years of marriage, we've gotten some "new" furniture... and theer not being a big market for trade-ins in the trade, I've found myself with some "extras". One such is a little 3-drawer night stand. Keep my molds and handles in there. Luckily it sits right under the bench where both lead pots are.


You can just see the top of it under the bench... Small, but holds my 35 or so molds with room to spare... most with handles still attached! If you're going to do it... keep convenience foremost in mind!
