I've never seen that casting machine before. Very slick set up.
I'm guessing the bullet goes one way the sprue another?
Sure beats a mallet!

Those are my bullets falling out of that mould! Well except for the ones he's keeping for himself. My 1895 sure likes them.

Man, I've been wanting one of those. I still have molds and sprue cutters from when I had a big Magma. Should have kept that one but it took 6 sets of molds for each bullet.

Always thought a Magna Caster would be the bee's knees. If I was 51 instead of 71 years old, think I would say "hang the expense [$1100.00 + $250.00 for digital temperature control], I'm 'gonna' order one."

Creeker used to sell me 41 bullets that were cast from the Magma. Can't really tell you about diameter variance as they were sized when they got to me. The weight was very consistent though

If you maintain cadence & be sure you the stream the entering the sprue cutter stays the same the bullets will be very consistent. One other thing, if anyone is having trouble casting for physical reasons this machine makes it very easy on your body.

Have you ever weighed a batch of bullets and observed a weight variance and how much was it before lubing and sizing?

With a ladle I can hold +/- 1-2 grains for a 535 grain, .45 calibre paper patch slug, cast from 1:30 alloy. And I can cast about 55 slugs per hour. After about two hours hand fatigue sets in.

I only cast for .45, .50, and 11mm bullets and wondered how much weight variance there is from a machine. If there is the same or less weight variance, I might try to convince myself that a Magna would be worthwhile and save time.

As an aside: Prior to ladle casting, I utilized a RCBS and Lee bottom pour furnaces. Was never able to get consistent/acceptable result -- weight variation was 5-7 grains + for .45 calibre rifle bullets. My theory is that the melt flow was just too slow to quickly fill out the mould and expel the trapped air. An Old Time caster advised me to try a ladle over a propane stove and drill out the ladle spout. He reasoned that: (a) propane gave a more even/consistent temperature; (b) by drilling out the ladle spout, the melt flowed more easily/quicker into the mould and expelled trapped air faster giving a more uniform bullet.

I sized, checked & lubed several of these today. I only check weighed 4 as these are for my buddy Terry but they varied only 1 grain. If memory severs they were 425, 425, 424, 424.5. This is excellent for bullet that heavy. Many casters are happy with + or - 1% which would be 4.25 grains in this case.

I normally shoot these in a side hammer '74 with 25 grains of AA5744 & iron sights. They are more accurate than I can hold. The Master Caster is what you see in the video & when casting you must repeat if you want consistency. I will say when casting long bullets I can't beat pressure pouring with a ladle.

Before Creeker sold out he stocked me up with those 41 bullets.They are very nice. If you get some I think you will like them.
