Day 2 of THIS SUCKS

Post by GunnyMack »

Yesterday I awoke about my normal 5 am, roll over and HOLY stuff SOMEONE STOP THE ROOM FROM SPINNING! WTF is going on...? Spent the day stumbling around trying not to black out until I could get to see the Doc.
He says I'm suffering from Directional Vertigo. Gave me an Rx for antibiotic and told me to get an OTC for the inner ear. Right ear has some fluid in it...
The antibiotic is for my over due yearly sinus infection, been feeling it building up and figured that's what it is/was.
The OTC is for seasick ,not Dramamine, says 'chewable', Cherry flavor- for about 10 seconds ya can taste the cherry then it tastes like an ashtray! It seemed to help so I'll swallow one today.
This morning the spinning wasn't as bad but still felt it.

I do not wish vertigo on anyone!

I'm sorry. That sucks. I will offer this: buy your self a very small amount of goldenseal powder and set it aside for when you get your next sinus infection. Once infection begins, snort about an eighth of a teaspoon of goldenseal in each nostril. It will burn a bit. This always stops an infection in its tracks first time use. I've never had to use it twice. Also, for the ears, garlic mullein oil drops held in with some cotton for a half an hour will help kill bacteria and loosen other stuff. Antibiotics : Find yourself some soil based probiotics to rebuild your gut after destroying it with antibiotics. Remember that we are more affected by our gut biome than any other force ( except the Lord of course). Don't let this get away from you again.
Kind regards,
Tycer

Did you get to the point of laying on the floor and throwing up? Did you get a ringing in your ears that was so loud you were ready to call it quits? I've been there and my vertigo was caused from excessive drinking.....it why I don't drink anymore but a couple of drinks a year.

The inner ear get full of junk ......from a variety of reasons.

Yes, the vertigo thing will scare you but if you know others have been through it, well, it takes the "sting" out of it. It took me a couple of weeks for it to go away.....that was 22 years ago.

You get up at 5 A.M.??? I did that for over 40 years and since I retired, I don't believe I've got up before 9...... :D -----6

Man, you have my sympathies!

That happened to me several years ago. Middle
ear infection. It was all I could do to get to the
door to let the EMTs in. Antibiotics, valium, 2
days of sleep and all was well. Terrific nausea.

I use a neti pot to rinse my sinuses whenever I feel
a sinus infection coming on. I used to get one or two
doosies a year. Now, none for the past 5 or 6 years.

Rest, antibiotics, flush out the sinuses, and you'll
be fine. This too shall pass!

+1
Try going through that without the pills, took me about a week before I was able to get behind the wheel.

P.S. mine hit without warning in the middle of the night, no nausea but balance was shot. Could only get around on hands and knees for 4 days.

Yeah Six everyday I'm up anywhere from 4:30-5, rain or shine, if I want to be or not.
My 3 alarm clocks make sure of it. They never need batteries or electricity, 1 yellow,1black & 1 chocolate! They don't bother with daylight savings & that really sucks!

Thanks for the support guys! I gotta say some of your symptoms are much worse then I'm having!

As long as I don't move left or right at any great speed I'm doing ok. This morning when I woke the spinning was only a few seconds- not minutes like yesterday!

Tycer, having been almost totalled by a sinus infection which I is still tailing on, I'd be interested in a link to your resources.

Also, what about the guy dealing with 4 long weeks of sinus terrorista? Anything left but to wait it out?

It helps to get some Echinacea capsules. They force your immune system to ramp up production very quickly. It helps you to fight infections. If you can stand it, make a tea out of it for even better results.
Putting things in the ear canal is moderately effective, but the eardrum is a natural barrier which is to prevent anything going into the ear from reaching or transdremally leaching into the extremely sensitive portions of the inner ear. Pseudoephedrine may help shrink the swelling of the eustachian tube so that the fluid buildup can drain out and decrease the vertigo.

Same here. Turn your head a little too fast, and the whole room spins. A good ear cleaning, and a strong antihistamine usually knocks it out.

Gunny, do yourself a big favor, get to an ENT, (Otolaryngologist(sp?)). If you have sinus/ear issues get them taken care of. You do not want to grow old saying "what" or learning sign.

What???? I really don't think there is a guy here who is over about 55 who don't have serious hearing issues. I kind of like it....the wife says this and that about some mindless entertainment and I just walk on past.---6

Yeah I have some hearing loss, right ear is better then left. Doc held his watch to left ear & I couldn't hear it, right side I could hear it even though that's the ear with the issue. That confused doc... I told him that since I was a competitive shooter and right handed the left ear takes more abuse. He had to think about that a bit, even so far as throwing his hands up like he was holding a gun.

Good news is the spins have disapated, now just sinuses discharging and hacking from the deep dark recesses of my lungs. The ole Z-pack doing its job getting rid of a years worth of saw dust.
