Fixed power scopes

Post by gcs »

Does anyone make a fixed 2 1/2X rifle scope anymore?
Not looking for a compact, or extended eye relief, just an old fashioned normal scope that's not "tactical" have range markers, or lighted reticles.
I'm finally going to change out my FP peep which has helped me rack up tons of deer, actually I don't WANT a scope ,but my eyes ain't up to it anymore. I know there's a bunch of low power variables which I may have to go with instead, but I don't NEED anything more then a 2 or 2 1/2X, and would like to keep the size and weight down as well.
I keep searching and so far nothing . Maybe you guys have stumbled on one, Thanks for the help.

I'd look to see what Optics Planet has. They seem to have everything.

.

SWFA has historically had low pricing and a wide selection; www,swfa.com

Leupold still makes/markets 2x & 3x scopes - with a lifetime guarantee,

http://swfa.com/Fixed-Power-C111.aspx

Other makers also offer low-powered scopes (Burris, Weaver, etc).

One of the best values in a low-powered scope is the Weaver V3 @ $175 @ SWFA.

Weaver K2.5, don't know if they still make it though. Wasn't listed on Midway or the Weaver optics site. Might also check out the K4 scope. YMMV

Just found out from Weaver, no K2.5s for 10 YEARS.

What are you scoping?
Does it have to be a new scope?
If you're looking to do a scout type setup, there's a couple of dandy EER Leupold M8 2x scopes on eBay right now.
Those older Weaver 3x's are a great little scope. Still plenty around.

Its going on a Marlin 336 30-30, I looked at the weavers as they had a good review, but they quit making the 2.5. Not a fan of the scout scope setup.
I ordered the leupold, it's small, light, and it's a leupold, my first ever. Usually I cheap out, but hey, it's only money.

I grew up reading Jack O'Connor lecture on how a fixed 4 power was more scope than needed, and not to fool with them unreliable variable contraptions. He would put on a fixed 6x if he was reaching way, way out.

My BLR 308 wears a Redfield 2 3/4X with a post. Love it. Course I bought it used at a gun show.

As far as I know, you can still send a used Leupold to the factory, and they will send it back to you like new free of charge.
I think Leupold bought out Redfield, but I don't know what kind of warranty Redfield has....

Yes. Burris, too. That's why both those brands are such good deals used. Buy one, throw it in a box, send it off for a free re-furb.

Until recently, I kept a minty K2.5 stashed away for a rainy day. Then an elderly friend desperately needed one and I parted with it. Not a month later I came into a .416 Rigby that would have been perfect with that scope.

I too like the old-style straight tube 2.5x or 3x scopes. Weaver makes an outstanding V-3 scope. Its a 1 to 3 variable. Small and compact. I simply keep it at 2.5 or 3 power all the time. Have had it mounted on my Remington 600 carbine in .350 Mag. for about 10 years now. Price is reasonable, I believe about $160. or so. My second choice is the old Lyman Perma-Center models in 2.5 or 3 power, if you can locate one. They are tough as nails. When in gun shops I check out the scopes on the used guns, searching for these older models, and many times the dealer is more than willing to take them off and sell them separately.

Me too. Used one on a 444 and sure appreciated the compact size, outstanding eye relief and the sense of optical peep sight. I need to admit I won't own a variable. As my eyesight fades and optics gets added I have stayed with fixed power Leu and a 4X Zeiss Conquest, all used with warranty.

Leupold does own the Redfield brand and makes them in both the USA and in China. The USA ones are great scopes . I have a 2-7 on one of my AR's and the quality is very good for the money.

I ordered a Redfield from Midway USAand when it came it was marked China. I returned it and ordered the USA made Redfield to replace it. I am vare happy with it.

Yes, you can buy a Leupold scope at a flea market and you get a lifetime warranty with it. The owners manual says you do not have to be the original owner.

Thanks to all, I did buy the leupold, cute little thing, First "good" scope I ever bought and it has all the magnification I'll ever need, I too remember O'Conner and his scope recommendations, He was right too, :D , Have a fixed 6X on my 243 and the buck pronghorn I took at over 300 yds never knew what hit him. Plenty of power for those ranges.
I'll have to adapt to the way I carry the rifle now, without a scope it's so handy, but I see the need for concessions due to OMS, "old man syndrome"
