We have a vintage (1950's?) one in 410/22LR, and it is SWEET...!

The newer ones definitely lack the 'classic beauty', but one in 12g/308 would be a dandy all-season gun.

I'd like one in 45-70 and 22 Hornet if they would make me one...

When I came of age my very first legal gun purchase was a Savage M24 in .22 Mag/20 gauge. Somebody kick me in the head. I have no idea why I don't have it to this day.
Those concepts are great and I can't think of one bad thing to say about them.

The Valmet-based Savage 2400 is a whole other beast than the run-of-the-mill Savage 24, and has an excellent reputation.

It's basically a clone of the famous Remington Model 32 O/U, made of arguably newer/better materials.

AFAIK, even though it's a combination gun, an orphaned set of 12ga/12ga barrels can be fitted to the frame.

If the price is right, I'd suggest snapping it up, tout suite.

I had two, a .222 Rem under 12 and a .308 ditto. Both rifle barrels were dead nuts accurate with factory ammo and the shotgun barrel worked too. When I moved back to CA I sold the .308/12 to a friend in Nevada who treasures it. Kept the .222/12 and use it for coyotes--I've never found as good a rig.

Presently own 4 Savage/Valmets: three shotguns and that combo. To say the Savage/Valmet 2400 is nothing like a Savage Model 24 is the understatement of the year....

One possible negative of the 2400 combination is that the shotgun barrel is choked "Improved Modified"--really a turkey hunter's dream but a little tight for much upland shooting. I solved that by buying Fiocchi "Spreader" shells, which work as advertised. But there's enough meat in the shotgun barrel to install a Briley "Thin Wall" choke tube if you want maximum adaptability, and the action is PLENTY strong enough to rechamber to 3" magnum (they built 9.3x74R double rifles on essentially the same action, not to mention .375 H&H).

Used my .308/12 on several hog hunts with good success of the .308 bbl. Kept the shotgun barrel stuffed with 00 buck for close range insurance. Never used it for that, but it was a confidence builder, for sure.

If you find a 2400 in good shape and the right caliber rifle barrel at a decent price, get it.

Had an old model 24, 20gauge full choke and .22 LR. Nice turkey gun, little on the heavy side, gave it to daughter when she showed interest in hunting.

I had a nineties made 22hx12g.
It's firing pins were made of cheese so I made my own.
The rifle barrel was a peach. The shotgun barrel had multi chokes and misfired.....before I made new pins.

I also had a 20gx22m. That was very good!

I think one of the best possible Combos like that might very well be a 12/.223 ... with a .223-.22LR chamber insert and a handful of Gauge Mates down to .410

No, the .223/5.56 isn't as good as a .308 whatever, but it's an easier conversion to .22 than with the larger barrel.

OTOH, a gun in 20x.357 would be sweet as is...

I have a 2400 in 12ga over.222. It is a solid, well made piece that shoots very well. The iron sights are regulated for 100yds and will clean a 2L coke bottle consitantly at that range for me. The shotgun barrel seems to pattern fine with #6 or 7 1/2s, never tried it with steel or buckshot. It is not what I would call a first choice for wing shooting due to the stock fit, for me anyways.
Bigest drawback to me is that it has Sako type dovetails and the rings I have tried all mount too high.

Since the sako mounts fit the the I plan on buying one of the Sako peep sights for it
