Washing a pistol by accident !!!

This morning my neighbor came to my shop with a sheepish look on his face. He explained that he had stripped the bedding off the bed and washed it. Problem is, he forgot that his Ruger P95 9mm was under the pillow and loaded. It went through the wash with only a tiny bit of bluing missing from the front sight. I dissasembled it and relubed and cleaned the bore. Looks cleaner than new inside except for the fact it was stripped of all oils and lube it is good as new. All metal parts are stainless.

I have regularly cleaned cap and ball revolvers in the dishwasher. But I stopped bit before the drying process and used spray lube on them.

I ran my Tissot pocket watch thru the washer and dryer once.....It did not fair so well.

That's a good one. Haven't done that yet, but my wife has done my billfold couple times. Last time we were going on vacation and had to keep explaining this wasn't boob or sock money, just that my wife had laundered it......

Very glad for the guy nothing exciting happened. That would have been hard to explain.

What she doesn't know won't hurt her (or YOU ).........

I washed my stainless Ruger Old Army C&B revolver (did-assembled & sans grip panels) in the upper rack of my otherwise empty household dishwasher until the end of the 1st (HOT WATER) rinse cycle (before the heat drying cycle).

The metal was always hot enough to dry itself of moisture in less than a minute, after which I gave it a good lube job, inside & out.

After I removed the ROA from the dishwasher, I let the machine finish with it's 2nd rinse & drying cycles to flush any BP residue out of the machine, so our dishware would remain safe of contaminates.

His wife is out of town visiting her sister. That is why he was doing laundry in the first place would be my guess.

I ran the key fob for my brand new truck through the cloths washer the first day I had it. Three years later it's still working fine. I did pop it apart and dried it out but never replaced the battery. I check my jeans pockets now before throwing them in.

I ran my 1911 Hamilton pocket watch thru like that. Cost me rebuilding a friends Powerglide in trade for his watchmaker Dad to rebuild my watch.

Absolutely. Dishwashers are great for stainless C&B guns.

As for "contaminants"...

Carbon: from burnt food.
Sulfur: from Eggs
Potassium Nitrate: From your bathroom toothbrush cup (Sensodyne's active ingredient is KNO3)
Lube: Crisco.
Lead: Look at your pipes.

No contaminants there...

(FWIW, we used to use a steam cleaner to clean our M16s in one unit. Worked a peach so long as you kept it hot and CLP'd it immediately when done...)
