I don't hunt whitetails anymore. Not enough meat. I prefer to hunt hogs.Bulldog wrote:In my rimmed version of the 358, I shoot the 180 gr. Speer with 43.0 gr. of H4198. My 336ER will put the first 3 shots inside 1 moa with that load, at 2607 fps. That's my favorite whitetail load.
Here you go Bill. This should do it!Bill in Oregon wrote:I was looking at .358 bullets the other day at Midway and was surprised that only Woodleigh makes a 250-grain RN in this caliber. If I can't get to the bottom of the fouled barrel in my Remington Lee 1899 Sporting Rifle in .30-30, I was thinking of having it rebored to .35 Winchester -- one of the original chamberings for the 1899. Of course, plenty of fine 200-grain RNs to choose from.

What .358 bullets are in your inventory?GunnyMack wrote:I have some .358 bullets that need homes, since I don't have one they need a home, if anyone is interested give a hoot. Also some 270 stuff.
I'm not going to drive them too fast, like to stay around 2600 f.p.s. The Speer 180 is a tough bullet! I've read countless reports about the penetration is extremely good, better than some of the 200 or 220 grain on the market. I know someone personally who is a guide in Alaska uses these bullets in her 35 Whelen. She has done quite a bit of testing on this bullet her self and uses it exclusively on critters that don't bite back if you know what I mean.Merle wrote:Mainehunter wrote:I'm planing on using my Savage 99F 358 Win. for the up coming deer season and I have a box of 180 grain Speer flat point I would like to try out. I thought the 180 Speers were developed for 35 Remington use. If that is so, won't you be seriously overdriving them in a 358?
Six gun - the model is "99-358"' often called "99-358 Brush-gun", introduced in 1977, last year made was 1980.Sixgun wrote:.358?mmm....
I also have a Savage 99 in .358.but I have no idea what letter comes after the '99 Savage. I "think" it's the one called "99 .358. It's a safe queen in the back of the safe. The gun is like new so I seldom shoot it, you know, investment
Well, I dug it out and don't see any "letter" on it. I hear these things are going for 15-18. Someone comes up 14 they can take it home. Too pretty to shoot or hunt with.
