Winchester Commemorative Plating

Hi All,
Does anyone know if Winchester used electroplating on their commemoratives.
I have a mate who wants to get his late fathers Comanche carbine looking like it used to.
The "brass plating" started to lift years back so he sent it to a gunsmith to repair. The gunsmith stripped off the finish and painted it black!
Now, ten years later he wants it brass again.
But, was it really brass plated to begin with or did Winchester use some other process?
Any info would be greatly appreciated because I have told my mate I would get it fixed for him.

Hi Pop, I thought that the Comanche 94 carbine had a gold plated receiver and lever, not brass.

The Comanche was not marketed in the US.

The commemorative post-64 Winchester 94's were either electro-plated in White Chrome, Black Chrome, Gold, Silver, Brass or Pewter (depending on the issue), or colorized using the Du-Lite Blue/Oxy Black (oxide) process with what only looked like bluing (but wasn't) or what looked like case-hardening colors (Model 94 Antique).

(Du-Lite had been supplying Winchester's normal bluing since 1940, but came up with new process' to finish the 196-81 receivers machined from a graphitic casting)

I have been speaking to Rob Spittles (a real gunsmith) and he confirmed the plating was in Gold.

Now. Does anyone know where I might find a butt stock medallion for the Comanche carbine??

At one time years ago Numrich had a very large assortment of Winchester Commerative parts ( medallions, stocks, bands, barrels, etc.) and they may still have some left.

Very few, as I've been buying them up! I haven't seen any medallion s for some time.

IIRC, a US Silver Dollar will fit the Winchester medallion's inletting, but IDK if AUS has a similarly-sized coin.
