I sell a lot of stuff on Ebay, buy some too, have for years.
A while back I bought a book at a local yardsale for 2 buck IIRC. History of the Sherman tank. Put it up on Ebay, sold it for 80 bucks. I was really happy until I noticed the buyer was in Switzerland, I had forgotten to stipulate USA sales only on my listing.
Cost me $64.00 to ship it to Switzerland!!!
The jokes on me, should have been paying closer attention, wont happen again.
Whoever called getting old "The Golden Years" was not old.
With my luck, it would have sold for 60 bucks. My glee at making a good profit would have been short lived when it dawned on me I was in the hole on that transaction.
"If a man does away with his traditional way of living and throws away his good customs, he had better first make certain that he has something of value to replace them." - Basuto proverb.
Well, you know something?......I'm 99.9 % sure that cat in Switzerland knew all about shipping charges...so....that means if he screwed you I would have made it a nice comeback and told him you decided not to sell it.
What are they gonna do, send over the Switzerland Secret Police?----- ----6

They would probably send the Swiss Guard complete with matchlocks.
It's not possible for the winner in an auction to screw the seller. The seller does that to himself.
This comes to mind....I know nothing about eBay .......question........lets pretend Joe Ishbach has something for sale and then Leroy Jackson wins the auction. Can't Joe tell Leroy that he decided not to sell it?
I've spent a fair part of my life at horse and gun auctions and a "no sale" was a common occurrence.-----6
On eBay you can close an auction anytime up till the item receives a bid. After a bid has been placed you must complete the auction and you cannot stop the auction early and sell to the then highest bidder. Conversely the bidder has entered into a legal contract to buy when he/she places a bid. If they don't pay the matter can be turned over to eBay who will attempt to make the person pay and if not the person will be listed and not allowed to bid in future auctions though that may take more than one incident.
Was that $64 charge the USPS Media rate? (I really don't know if there is a media rate for international shipments, but if there is I'd expect it to be 'way cheaper than that!)
Had the same thing happen for me, rather than to me! I bought a 3 piece spoiler for my '71 Camaro, and seller said $90 shipped. It took forever, and I finally contacted the seller to ask where it was. He said he couldn't find any place to ship it for less than $50. He finally gave in and sent it, but wasn't happy.

Thanks Hawkeye! I learn something new everyday. For me personally, I prefer to list a price and stay at that....or...if it's been sitting to let it go at a cheaper price. Screw those overseas buyers and for that matter, anyone from those communist states.----6
Hey! BTW, does your handle refer to a Ruger Hawkeye .256? I'm interested if so.---Me

Its called the Golden Years, because the doctors get rich off of the older people!!! Least that's what a friend used to tell me...
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres
250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!
You could have shipped to the Global Shipping center in Kentucky.
They handle the customs and bill the buyer for shipping.
That would have been fine if I hadn't advertised it "free shipping".
Your part of the "free shipping" is only the cost of shipping to Kentucky.
I have sold items in Australia, Japan, France, Germany and Russia through the ebay Global Shipping Center.
Just check the appropriate box when listing your item.
