Quite the day

Post by mack »

Lost my job today. I'm out of work for the first time in nearly 50 years.
Also got to hold my granddaughter for the first time today! ( She was born a week ago, but I've had a cold and stayed at arms length until today.) Our first Mackenzie girl born since 1925. All male children 'til now! A stuff load of gr. uncles, uncles and cousins have already started to spoil her!
Now that I am out of work, having sold my company and it's buildings today, I will have a summer off to fish and ride my horses, and then go hunting next fall. There is a certain Winchester I am looking for, and I can afford it now!
My wife looked at me on the drive home from the closing and said "You've made it, now what are you going to do?" Why do I think she has a project planned??

Congratulations!!!!

I retired 3 years ago, was retired 2 months when I was offered a job for half the money. I took it and a few friends asked why? My reply was simple - have you seen my wife's honey-do list.

Congratulations on the retirement and successful sale of the company and buildings, and just importantly on the addition of the grandchild. Truly good times and we here all wish you the best.

Sounds like a good thing. I retired in 99 and have enjoyed almost every minute of it. Except there are no days off.

Nice ! I retired 12 years ago, and am STILL in that post-retirement hunting & fishing stage. (except for that honey-do list  )

I'm glad you finally got to hold your Granddaughter - I also have only Grandsons.

They've already taken possession of some of my guns, and it's great to be able to see them enjoy their bequest (?) while I'm still relatively healthy.

What specific Winchester is on your bucket list ?

There was a guy that worked at Lockheed. Was there forever and finally retired. He got a heart attack and died loading his tool box on his truck his last day at work!!!
I retired January 2,000. 35 years at Lockheed. Since then I remarried, moved to Utah. Some things worked, some not. We got heavy into trail riding with our atv. I got nose cancer and had my nose removed. Our health insurance sky rocketed (mostly on my much younger wife). Now it is over a hundred dollars more than my retirement check a month! "O`bama care"
God is getting us through but had I known what the numbers are today, I doubt I would have had the nerve to retire that early.

I saw "lost my job" and started to feel bad for you. Then I read down and found out you retired. Congratulations are due! I retired 6 years ago and it took me a long time to "wind down" and even now sometimes I feel a bit guilty for not being productive, doing nuttin' if I want, but my wife tells me I earned my "sweet time" from over 50 years of labor with the last 25 with a very large city department...

Yep retirement/life is good!

I'm thinking that she is probably trying to formulate a plan to keep you out of her hair...

Congratulations, Sir!

Congrats on the grand baby and successfully selling your company!

1 year, 8 months and 17 days to go for me.....not that I'm counting. That will give me 35.5 years in this business. I am so ready to do something else.

I'm afraid I will never wind down from the business sale, (I'll be wound up for life over the granddaughter!). The new owners have asked me to come in for a few weeks and help them with the transition. I need to see them be successful and this is more pressure than I have ever felt! You guys that have retired or sold businesses , did you feel guilty over leaving? I really thought that I could crash and get a real nights sleep after Tuesdays closing. That didn't happen for sure!

I get to retire in 3 months. Been employed without a break for 52 years.
Have to rebuild a house we are going to live in, no hurry, we own 2.

Looking forward to it, still nervous.
