CS what you say is true and I love gadgets but I have had a Marbles Safety Ax for years (I don't think they are made in the States any more) and it is easy to pack with a stainless steel blade guard and was about $15 then and are mid $20's now.

I can see the appeal, but IIWM, I'd skip it.
It seems to me that tools that try to do too many things seldom do any of them well.

Funny, but I have never had any problem cutting, scraping, or removing bottle caps with my regular ol' Fiskar's hand axe. And, when I pack it in to the woods, I don't have to find -- and figure out how to cut -- a handle for it.
