One of the top movie cowboys of all time in my opinion! Maybe not the best but one of the tops.

"The Apostile" was my favorite. He was great in all movies I have seen.
Re: Robert Duvall...ever in any BAD movies...???
I've always thought that he's one of those actors that give value for money no
matter what he's in. On his worst day he does a good, workmanlike job, and he
doesn't seem to have very many bad days.
The late James Garner was like that, and Morgan Freeman
is, too.

Yep. Not ever the most 'famous', but consistently great.stretch wrote:I've always thought that he's one of those actors that give value for money no

"Apocalypse Now" comes to mind, though Duvall was great, as usual.

He as Lucky Ned Pepper said........""I have never busted a cap on a woman or anybody much under sixteen years but I will do what I have to do" . priceless.

Re: Robert Duvall...ever in any BAD movies...???
The first movie I saw him was a short black & white independent on Chicago PBS-11 back in the 70's. He was a farmer & a pregnant woman came to him....boyfriend might've went back to the Civil War or got killed in it. She asked if she could stay, & he delivered the baby. She died in childbirth, but not before he promised her he'd raise it as his own. WHAT a job he did playing that part.....as is obvious, I never forgot it. AND DON'T FORGET THE E-TRADE COMMERCIAL HE'S DOING NOW WITH KEVIN SPACEY!!!jd45
Re: Robert Duvall...ever in any BAD movies...???
Never seen him in what I would call a bad movie. Thought he was great in second hand lions. Laughed my tail off at the sceen in the store with the young punks.
And yes that commercial is awesome lol

THX 1138 was horrible. Even though it had Duvall and was from George Lucas.
Re: Robert Duvall...ever in any BAD movies...???
Little known part guest starring as a somewhat reluctant, war weary but clever German soldier in a Combat! episode. A lot of folks haven't seen Broken Trail - a great yarn that was a straight-to-video release as I recall. And he did a good job stealing the scenes from Kostly Kevin in Open Range. Duvall probably one of the few that could command such respect from him to get away with being the bigger screen presence in a film Costner would agree to participate in. Actually also one of Mr. Costner's better, more under-played roles.
Re: Robert Duvall...ever in any BAD movies...???
Forgot about Second Hand Lions. He and Michael Cain were priceless in that.

Besides the ones we think of like Lonesome Dove and Open Range I always liked Falling Down.

The Cowboys and Will Penny rate at top along with Lonesome Dove

Robert Duvall is not a cast member in either Will Penny or The Cowboys, according to IMDB.com. jd45
