I finally got my 1873 SRC (1884)! New photos
I have been trying to get an old 1873 SRC to go with my 44-40 Colts SAA 1st generation. I got one at an auction today. It is hard for me to find a 73 SRC in any kind of decent shape. This one is pretty good. All the ones I have seen in good shape have been around 4000.00. I got this one for less than half that. It has a good action, some varnish, dust protector, good bore, and all original. It does need a slide on the front carbine sight. I'm just glad I found a decent one.

Chuck100 yard, I have a 1873 rifle in 38-40 made in 1891. It is a 85% gun. It shoots great, but I wanted a SRC to go with my old SAAs. Ysabel Kid. The gun belt is a Cartridge scout belt Made by W.H. Clay of Brownsville, Texas (circa 1915). It hung in the Ranger Museum at Waco, Texas for years. It was part of the Joe Bates Collection. When he died in the 70s it was auction off and I got it along with some others. The Texas Rangers used these scout belts on long trips around Texas (mostly on the border). They carried 12 rounds of revolver ammo and 40 rounds of rifle ammo. In this case 38-40 and 30-40 Krag for a colt SAA and a 1895 Winchester. The ranger would just have to change his holster over from his everyday cartridge belt. They were heavy as one might tell and were easier to carry while on horseback than on foot. I will take a better photo tomorrow if I have time. My wife and I are headed for Taos New Mexico Tuesday morning and I haven't finished packing.
