1969 Mfg. Model 94 Winchester 30-30
Found a real nice Model 94, 30-30, made in 1969. Has no "buggered" screws or rust marks. Nice blueing, and wood. Has a non-rebounding hammer, metal butt plate and aperture mounting screws on left rear of receiver. Looks like it has a nice machined carrier and not stamped sheet metal. Dealer says $275 out the door.
First forum member that says I am nuts for not buying it today will get me back to the dealer at once
Let me know and thanks,

Trooper Joe, you should have bought it. That's a good price. 94's in that condition aren't usually found for prices that low. I would have jumped at it had I seen it.trooper joe wrote:Found a real nice Model 94, 30-30, made in 1969. Has no "buggered" screws or rust marks. Nice blueing, and wood. I would have broken my arm reaching for the wallet. If you don't want it, I'll give you a quick 75 buck profit, and pay the shipping. I kid thee not.

You're nuts for not having bought it!
It should have the checkered steel, flat buttplate, and the rest you described sounds like a standard carbine. It's of "post-64" variety, made of "sintered" steel, not forged. I'm not sure if they were plating the sintered steel as early as 1969, the receiver finish will appear more black than the blue of the bbl. if not. The finish of that time frame wasn't the best, but if looked after and properly cleaned it's as durable as anything a blued forged receiver is going to have. It'll still have the stamped carrier, and while I've heard of them being broke and bent, neither of that type I own, have suffered from that fate. I believe that broken or bent stamped carriers are a result of improper ammo or "forcing" them to work, when something else is wrong.
If the finish is in good shape, no freckling or flaking of the finish, then that's a good price. If I didn't already have a '67, 70', '72, '73, '76, '78 & '79, I'd be asking where it was!!!

Agreed, buy it! I have a 1964 the worse they ever made some claim that shoots great. I changed the cartridge lifter for no reason other than I like the looks of the forged better than the stamped.

I'll bet it is gone by the time you get back there - that has happened to me a few times . . .

.
Buy it - but keep in mind that since the receiver finish only looks blued (it's not), it will need TLC as long as it's yours.
BTW - since the sheet metal lifters continued to late 1970, when Winchester upgraded some of the disasterous changes of 1964 in 1970 (also changing to a solid/cast lifter), someone's switched out the lift for a better one. (I've done that to a LOT of 1964-70 Model 94's)

Re: 1969 Mfg. Model 94 Winchester 30-30
Just got back from the dealer. We had a discussion about the stock probably being some type of hardwood instead of walnut. Dealer let me have it for $250 out the door .
Will get out to the range probably next week.

AFAIK, the only non-walnut wooden Model 94 stocks were on M-94's marked "Ranger" on their barrel.

Re: 1969 Mfg. Model 94 Winchester 30-30
Bought mine new in 1955 when I was 14 years old. I soon added a Williams Peep and a pad for LOP.
I have shot most of the deer with it. It`s still accurate, I haven't had to move the sight in 60 years.
My longest shot was with it. 200 to 220 yards. A buck was high up on the side of a mountain above me. It was snowing a wet snow. I recall I had to take my glass`s off as they were wet and steamed up.
He dropped on the shot. I think it was 220 long paces. Under it is a model 64 I lucked into about in the late 1970`s. It appeared unfired. It was made in the early 1950`s and I have fired maybe a box through it.

I can't find "Ranger" on the barrel. Maybe the wood is walnut. Also, the carrier may have been updated. It doesn't look like sheet metal like some I have examined from this era.Pete44ru wrote:.

You done real good on that deal. I don't think a man can have to many 94's, ask Griff.

I'm sure its walnut, just a plain grained piece of wood.trooper joe wrote:I can't find "Ranger" on the barrel. Maybe the wood is walnut. Also, the carrier may have been updated. It doesn't look like sheet metal like some I have examined from this era.Pete44ru wrote:.

You did well, good job! If the carrier isn't blued, its one of the forged or whatever the later ones are. I've swapped several out on guns I've had then sold or traded, they used to be less than $20 for the part and weren't hard to get from Brownells. The butt plate looks like the last 60's gun I had, the reverse (impressed) checkered steel plate.
Should give plenty of fun and use for you.

Good deal specially after the pictures.
Re: 1969 Mfg. Model 94 Winchester 30-30
I'd pull out 3 Franklins for that gun! On the first day!
94's around here are pretty much a $400-and-up encounter, and there are quite a few seen on most gun-shopping days. The 1894s that used to sell for 900-141300 are down below $800 pretty consistently, but not anything under $400 I'd spend my cash on.
Hope the pickins' are better in your areas.
