These are just average sized bucks. But way more fun to hunt close with a lever action carbine than a super long range magnum.

We have a number of decent sized herds around our place, some camped out within a couple hundred yards of the house this winter. I'm thinking of hunting them during archery season this year.

I had good luck with my 30-30 carbine. Sierra 125 grain pointed bullet loaded with WIN 748 flattens out trajectory somewhat. But it is still not a 270.

Sierra told me the 125 is a varmint bullet designed for 30-06 and .308 but I found that at 30-30 velocity it behaves like a good big game bullet. For safety, I load one cartridge into chamber at a time. This has not been a handicap. Antelope can be stalked. But late season, I often remain concealed behind a cow silouette about 150 yards from a heavily used fence crossing. Antelope have exceptional vision but they're not very smart.

We make great tasting antelope sausage by mixing half and half with Jimmy Dean HOT sausage.
