One of my hobbies

Post by hondo1892 »

In my spare time after I quite my day job. I have been making grips for my daughters 1911 and will probably do a pair for my dad next. Some nice curly maple left over from a rifle stock.

Nice work!

I really like the color, is it a stain or dye?

I used trans tint and mixed colors until I came up with what I liked. It can be mixed with water or denatured alcohol. To me its more like a dye than a stain.

Yes, I would call it a dye too. Transtint is handy stuff to have around - I put it in bottles with eyedropper caps so I can use it a little at a time in paste epoxy (that white 24 hr stuff, PC11 I think it is).

Good eye on the color mixing, I'd say you got it just right for maple

Curly Maple is very pretty. Nice job, sir.
