Cimarron/Uberti - tapered octagon barrels?

Post by 92&94 »

My only real complaint with Rossi's is that the octagon barrels are not tapered. It seems kinda silly to beef about that, but I like what I like. Do the Italian guns have tapered barrels on the rifles? Looking at a 44 mag 24".

I'll go with a Rossi if I have to, but I really like tapers.

I suppose I could take a Rossi barrel, have a friend of mine surface grind a taper in it, reblue, and re-install it - but with all that it seems like it might be better to just buy one, even at twice the $$$ of a Rossi.

I have a Uberti 1873 short rifle in 44 WCF that is .855 at the receiver and .765 at the muzzle.

I have the same short rifle and a Navy/Uberti deluxe that has a tapered barrel. I have a Rossi in 44-40 that I haven't looked at lately but I think it has a little taper. I'd go look but I've lost the keys to that safe. Been looking for them for a month now so I may have to break in. I know how because a few years ago some miscreant left me the evidence of the way he got in.

I thought only the 20" Rossi was untapered.

Rossi octagons are straight, both the 20" and the 24's. that's why the 24" in 357m feels like a truck axle hanging out there.
