Todays pictures.

Post by Nath »

.45 smoothrifles rock!
A mere 20grns of BP and a patched .440.
Both rabbits stalked down to 8yards just like one would using a bow!
No meat damage :)

Three hours in the winter sun and a fresh wind, pheasants, squirrel and numerous birds. Priceless to an old woods bum :D

Great shooting! That would be a Pedersoli Kentucky rifle by the look of it. It probably has a 1/48 twist.

Okay. So how much time between shots.? You would think the boom stick would have scared everything off.

My only regret was I never got to take my Kentucky shooting while I had it.

Never timed it, I was out for about 3&1/2hours and had three shots one of which missed.

I was only loading it with 20grains, it was no louder than a 2" .410. Maybe only doing 700fps?? Certainly sub sonic.

I had a cva kentucky rifle kit years ago as a kid. I made it up and once the barrel was shot in it was very accurate.
No rabbit was safe over 120yards with it.

Great photos, I was amazed how accurate my first smooth bore Kentucky was but I never tried it at much over 50 yds, I did have to watch out for ricocheting though.

Nath I keep looking at the tree in your first picture, is that one tree or two grown together? Sure is bound to be an old one.

Good point.
I think it is two come together. Oaks.
There is a lot of history just there, ancient history!
The Romans were there, a monastery of sorts and a masonry works extracting the sand stone.
Small roads grown over are everywhere.
These oaks could of been part of a laid hedge hundreds of years ago!

Beauty-fine !

I like how Tia apparently enjoys getting her picture taken - when my dog spots me taking a pic, he almost invariably starts towards me & the camera.

Glad you're not asking me, after my replies to Gamekeeper's recent "First shot" posting........

Nice pix Nath! Glad to see Tia back out in the woods and in your photos. Guess that her pads have healed up well then, that's great. Cheers!

As fast as you can, luckily, our rabbits don't attack so no panic is required.
Usually it does give time for things to settle again.
A couple of minutes.

I always enjoy your hunting photos. Really makes me think of hunters in the old days and some of how I try to hunt today.

Thank you for posting the photos.
