Elmer Keith Estate Auction Coming Up

Post by Pete44ru »

.

Cabela's of Boise has closed the Elmer Keith museum.

The family has decided to sell most all of his personal items and guns, so it seems.

James D. Julia’s March 15-17, 2015 firearms auction is shaping up to be an Event for the Ages and will be the focus of those passionate about firearms and firearms history.
A highly anticipated grouping of firearms and accessories from the Iconic Elmer Keith Estate Collection will be a featured component of the sale.

Many of these fabulous items have been on display at Elmer Keith Museum housed inside Cabela’s Boise, ID retail showroom.
All items in the collection have remained in the possession of the Keith family since Elmer’s passing in 1984.

I guess you have to sign onto the mailing list to find out what the items are.

Greetings
Will sure fill the pockets of relatives who are now somewhat removed from a well written shooter. Sadly they have no desire to preserve those articles for future generations of shooters to enjoy. But maybe already those who are under 40 have little interest in the achievements of earlier pioneers.

Sadly, the younger generation seems to think they have thought of everything themselves, and are not standing on the shoulders of the greats ones that came before them.

His book on shotguns is the finest book on the subject I have found. Amazing depth of knowledge from top to bottom.

457121,
I was thinking the same thing. I am a big fan of Jim Corbett who was probably the most famous man eating tiger and leopard hunter who ever lived.
Jim Corbett passed away in 1955.

Here is the story of how Elmer acquired the famous 450/400 rifle that Jim used to send some man eaters to the happy hunting grouds.

Not very often I have seen another who has read "Shotguns" by Keith". I too was amazed by His Genius and insight in Wing shooting. one writer remarked when Elmer passed on that no matter what field He would have chosen in life He would have excelled.

Hey Jack,

Its only about fifteen miles down the road from me. I'll go down and sit in and you can phone in your bids. That'd be quite a team haha.

I went down with a buddy last spring for the preview. Took us a few hours to go through it all.

Jay,
Sounds great......I'll use you for the phone bidding and Ill tell you how high to go and when I buy them, you just pay for them and Ill send you a check...but I want the guns before I send you the check......sound fair?

For real....there may be a few things there that even a peon can afford. Elmer always wrote that he liked 1886 Lightweights in 45-70 and was said to have 4 or 5 of them.......maybe.....-----6
