found a bargain 94 SRC Trapper 30WCF
I usually find shooters that are in shooter condition... but today at a LGS I found a 1981 Winchester 94 30WCF saddle ring top eject no-safety 16" barrel without a box that looks brand spankin' new for $300 out the door!
Took it home and put a Williams FP on it; it's not drilled for a tang sight. GB Completed Items show that it was priced almost half what folks have been paying for rifles in similar condition.
I'll get pictures tomorrow.

That's an excellent deal. I paid $500 for mine. Great rifle.

Re: found a bargain 94 SRC Trapper 30WCF
Ya did GOOD!!! I was told I wouldn't like the bark that 16" has in .30-30... but I love the accuracy better! I'm surprised how good it shoots out at 200+ yards!!!

Re: found a bargain 94 SRC Trapper 30WCF
The only other trapper I've had was a Rossi 92 in Ruger 480. I thought that would be a barker, but it was a joy to shoot.

GREAT FIND --- I hunted with a Win.94AE Trapper in .30WCF. I hunted with that rifle in NYS (Adirondacks/Catskill Mts.)...that gun was accurate, easy to carry all day, recoil wasn't bad...BUT it had issues, sent it back to Winchester twice and they couldn't fix it (would mis-fire occasionally)... :)

All ya needed was to take the rebounder stuff out... or modify it... but no the factory wouldn't do that.1892 wrote:GREAT FIND --- I hunted with a Win.94AE Trapper in .30WCF. Re: found a bargain 94 SRC Trapper 30WCF
I traded a Dan Wesson with a spare barrel for mine back in 1980. And I did exactly what you did, put a Williams FP on it. Nothing else other than a trigger job (it needed one bad) was done to it.MacEntyre wrote:I usually find shooters that are in shooter condition... but today at a LGS I found a 1981 Winchester 94 30WCF saddle ring top eject no-safety 16" barrel without a box that looks brand spankin' new for $300 out the door!

I still have it and would love to use it again. It hasn't been fired since I came here .

Great score! That gun has some decent wood too. You are going to like that one.
Re: found a bargain 94 SRC Trapper 30WCF
Thanks for the kind words, folks!
Turns out a simple 3/4" nylon webbing strap 4.5' long with ladder lock works just fine for a single point sling, through the saddle ring and on the shooting shoulder.

Wow, that's a beaut! I was thinking of going to a one point sling too on mine. Think you have encouraged me to do so.

Your rifle didn't come (from the factory ) with a rebounding hammer.MacEntyre wrote:Yeah, the trigger is acceptable... barely. I'll have to work on that, and study up on the rebounding fix.

Re: found a bargain 94 SRC Trapper 30WCF
Thanks, Griff... it's been years since I owned a Winchester, and now I have two 94s. Normally, I wouldn't think about getting anything made after I was born, so I'm not up to speed with the new fangled gizmos. I'm just glad this one has no safety!

Shot it. Love it. Keepin' it!

Re: found a bargain 94 SRC Trapper 30WCF
The price tag said, "SALE $299.99" so it was more like a gift... I was suspicious, because it had been there for a day already. Still haven't figured out why it was priced so low...hfcable wrote:bargain .? a STEAL ! way to go !

Re: found a bargain 94 SRC Trapper 30WCF
Because they'd believed all them folks writin' them articles about how the .30-30 wasn't even capable of cleanly taking rabbits, let alone bigger game. Or maybe how those post '64 Winchesters are "junk"!MacEntyre wrote:...Still haven't figured out why it was priced so low...
