God Bless You Texans

Post by .45colt »

My Son in Law and I left for a three day fishing trip Tuesday, a short 90 mile drive to the lake. on interstate 77 His Jeep Grand Cherokee just flat lost power at 70mph. towing the boat.
We pulled over checked all the usual stuff. tractor trailers whizzing by 70+... rush hour traffic. out in pretty rural country, Paul spent an hour trying to get His insurance to find a tow that could come...the boat made it a big problem.
Out of nowhere comes a beat up old truck, a Young Man with a heavy accent announces He is in Ohio to see His parents. We were about 2 miles from our exit and He brought out an old tow strap and said I'm towing You to the exit. You Guys got to get off of the freeway.
He slides under the Jeep hooks the tow strap up and tows us to safety off the interstate. We offered Him some money, He refused, said that's the way My Daddy brought us up. I did get His address though , so He will be getting a gift card. As he was getting in His truck He say's if You come down to Texas look Me up we will go hog hunting.
It was another 7 hours before My Daughter got Me back to the house, picked up My Jeep , got the boat and We got to the lake 10:30 pm. it turned out the fuel pump quit on the Cherokee , big $$ as they had to remove the trailer hitch and gas tank skid plate. all rusted in place from years of road salt here. Surely We were touched by an Angel.

Jim road salt eats up anything and the liquid they spray at intersections is worse, the county road mechanic hands looks like he has leprosy. When I make a run from my place to kalispell about 100 miles 90 of it is a dead zone for cell phones and 1 out of 10 trips I find women or senior folks broke down with flats, trying to break loose lug nuts due to corrosion can make you lose your religion. I now carry a socket set, breaker bar and pipe extension. It makes you feel good that someone is willing to help you when your caught in a tight spot. danny

It surely does.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

We in Texas feel a duty to help out when we can. I was in a cafe the other day when a woman who was paying out dropped a piece of paper from her hip pocket. I watched to see if she would notice that she dropped it and pick it up. She didn't realize it had fallen out. I got up, went over and picked up the piece of paper that had fallen from her pocket. I handed it to her and told her what had happened. She looked at it, and thanked me profusely. It was a $600 check she had just received from a shipment of plants she had delivered. She tried to put a $20 bill in my hand and naturally I turned it down. We do unto others as we would have others do onto us.
Let me tell you a better tale about me losing a Kimber 45. I had recently had prostate cancer surgery. After such surgery, it is easier for one to pee if you just undo your pants. Out in the woods you can do such things. I pulled my gun out and set it on the hood of my pickup, took care of business, and drove out of the woods and towards home, 130 miles away. 50 miles down the road I reach for my 45 and its not there. Remembering the gun on the hood, I drive back and no gun is to be found. That night, I call the landowner and confess my foul up. He says that if he finds it he will let me know. Three months later, he calls me and tells me he knows where my gun is. It seems a friend of his drove down that county road that I had pulled out on and found a Kimber 45 laying in the road. He picked it up and kept it all that time. His conscience got the best of him and he told his friend, the one that I had called, that he had the gun. Well, to make a long story short, he called me and told me he wanted to return the gun to me. We met and he gave me the gun. I thanked him and put 5 $20 bills in his hand. See if that story can be reproduced in NYC.

Great story. There are still a few people who will stop and help. You probably should make that gift card a 'biggin :D
