hair-on tanned elk hide

Post by roughcreek »

A misunderstanding got my elk hide tanned with the hair on.
I have very few ideas what to use it for.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks, Roughcreek

If its a nice bull hide you can have it made into a rug mount and hang it on the wall or just drape it over the banister third option is to sell it and find another elk. I just hang mine over the banister with the other hides. danny

You will want to use it in a way that it does not get any rough use - I have never hand any luck in keeping the hair on the hide of any type of deer when it was being used heavily - I would not put it in the floor or on the back of a couch, or on a bed, for instance.

+1, or bass bugs if it's similar to deer hair from a fly tying stand point.

Thanks all for the tips.

I'll just throw it over the safe and tie flys.

I have a hair-on deer hide that rest between the glass top and the wood of a round end table. Drapes over the sides but the glass protects it for the most part. Looks nice.
