Speaking of .35 Rem Marlins

I finally caved and bought my FIRST Marlin. It was the one that "cubrock" had for sale about 2 1/2 weeks and 9 pages ago. It arrived on Wednesday evening and I must say that it is in excellent condition and I couldn't be happier. I hope that all the Winchesters in the safe don't recognize the foreigner among 'em.

Mine shoots Rem factory 200s the best - also 39.0 gr of 4064 and a 200 gr.

I have a regular at the shop who has one of those he regularly hunts. I told him, as he's been known to sell things now and again, that if he ever got an urge to sell that gun he should see me immediately. Never saw anyone laugh so hard! Musta been looking at the Mexican place across the street...

Anyway, that's a nice rifle.

I'm out in the garage loading .35s and it appears that 39/IMR4064 is a compressed load with the 200 gr Core-Lokt. Is that correct?

It seems to be mildly compressed when I load it, just filled the space. Might depend a little bit on how your reloader drops the powder. In My RL 550 it gets shaken a little as it moves from the powder drop to the seating station as it does when the case comes down from the powder die. It gave me 2060 fps with a Hormady RN.

Mike, I have some Federal factory 200s and some Remingtons. As I shake the Federals and listen it seems there is no space left but there is a little with the Remington factory loads.

nice find,Mark:I have acq.the 336-A.Ballard rifled Marlins in all the calibers from the '50s.,started when I realized that the Win.64's were being priced in the Unobtainium range..(Esp.the 219 Z).. Enjoy....We did trek over on occ.to hunt deer in the "Icehouse" area....That bridge on Donner carried me at least 500 times(counting both directions) !! Eggsucker

I'm using new Winchester brass sized to 1.920". I don't believe that the load is totally compressed, but the bullet is surely resting on the powder. This should not present a problem, though. Heck, I use compressed loads in my straight walled .45 caliber rifles all the time.

That is the feeling I had. The powder would probably resist the bullet going any deeper in recoil without much roll crimp.

I use a Lee factory crimp die to complete the loads. I'm still using my old Rockchucker and hand measuring each round with Lee dippers. I don't load enough to justify a Dillon 550.
