This photo was taken last week. Its not uncommon for mulies to still have antlers this late in the Winter. Yes, it's still very much winter here.
The buck is in excellent shape. I estimate his weight at approx. 225 lbs.

I was about 75 yards away. But I enlarged it twice and cropped the photo to fit.
Many bucks are taken with common 30-30 carbines each year at this distance. The myth of 300 yard shooting is kept alive and well by the magazines.

A 300 yard shot down here would have to pass through several cabbage palms and pine trees. At least you have some nice open areas with rolling terrain. Except for that white stuff ... "snow" is it called?

Bucks here started dropping antlers in early Feb. Of the ones that come around regularly the last one, a decent three pointer just dropped his yesterday.
