Not leverguns but still shooting: .22's at 100 yards.

Post by jnyork »

Our club shoots some .22 rimfire benchrest every Tuesday morning, we get about 16-18 shooters out at 0800 for the festivities. We either shoot 50 or 100 yards on alternate Tuesdays. 100 yard targets, seen here, get 10 shots each. "25" ring is 3/4" diameter.

My wife has done pretty well at 100 yards the last two matches, much better than I do which is fine with me.

These were shot in very light wind conditions, 3-5K from about 10 oclock or so both times. Notice how the slightest variation in the wind velocity will knock you out of your group. The one target has a flier out to the right, blaming this one on the ammo, Wolf and SK are just like Crackerjacks, there is a surprise in every box.

Anyway, I thought this was pretty fair shooting for not having a fancy benchrest rifle and am taking the opportunity to brag on her a little, hope you don't mind.:D

Excellent shooting from 100 yards over open sights :D

Nice that you have a wife who will go shoot with you. I'd be proud if my wife could hit a basketball most of the time at 100 yards.

On a calm day with better ammo, I'll bet she could do ORH 8)

That is good indeed.

How available is the match ammo such as Wolf Target and Target Match in your area?

.

I'm envious - deep snow covers my club's rifle ranges, to the point of 3/4th's covering the target holders - besides making the round trip, to put up target, a hazardous adventure.

Very, very good shooting. That is top notch shooting. Any woman that shoots like that is marrying material.

Only if you intend to keep yourself on the straight and narrow, a woman that can shoot like that; would make life difficult if she thought she had been wronged.

Back 30 years ago when I could see iron sights. My anschutz 1413 with tenex wouldn't have beat that by much. Good shootin 8)

I shot a couple 200 yd 22LR bench matches. It required way too much precision and concentration.

These guys usually have ample supplies of match ammo, in stock. Wolf MT is the same as SK Standard Plus. Wolf Match Extra is the same as SK Rifle Match

22 LR can be all kinds of fun at 100-200 yards; it sorta duplicates the drop and wind conditions that centerfire folks have to deal with out 500 yards or so, only with less walking to the targets and less expense.

She's a GREAT shot...!

Nonexistant unobtainium.

Our club buys it over the 'net in multiple case lots, allocates it to members only.

I don't remember well... but does the rifle range draw have a lot of wind? I thought the prevailing sort of blew over the top...

That would be the range in Lander, yes we occasionally have a little breeze there.

These were fired in Yuma.

Stuff is a little out of our payscale. We are both on the bad side of 70, and on fixed income, have to watch our pennies a little. I have a little over 3 cases of Wolf/SK, hate to see it sit idle.

Those targets won two matches for her, beating 17-18 men, some shooting tenex, etc. :D

PS, got the brass, thanks again. :D

She is a great shot. If she can do it with a .22 she can do it with bigger stuff too.

I don't know if you are into measuring rim thickness, but it can make a pretty good difference in keeping down the fliers. Especially at 100 yards. Normally one thickness will shoot a little better than the others also, they can vary .002+ with some ammo.

Wolf Match Extra/SK Rifle Match is "sorted". Match Target/Standard Plus is not. Eley Tenex is sorted, to exact matching weight, concentricity and rim thickness........at about .40 per round it better be. :D

Yes, just have to be extra, extra cautious not to double charge. Easy to do with Bullseye, I usually favor powders that will overflow the case with a double charge. I charge a flat of them, then check each one individually with a little flashlight.
