Marlin 30TK

Post by MacEntyre »

I never heard of a Marlin 30TK until yesterday.
Today, it came home with me!

What a great little rifle! Sort of a Trapper with a barrel extension.
It was listed for sale not far from me, on a Marlin forum.
I found a Levergunscommunity thread on it and read all about it.

The previous owner had a scope on it that I did not want,
as shown in the picture below. He bought it without a rear sight,
put a Williams FP on it, then sold the FP when he added the scope.
I had a Williams 5D in the parts bin, so that's what is on it now.

He is a lefty, like me, so I didn't even have to turn the hammer extension over.
I've never used a hammer extension. It's kinda nice being able to cock the hammer
without obscuring the view through the peep sight.

I read that one of the distinctions of this rifle is the way the mag tube is attached. There is a dovetail under the barrel with a blank in it, which is drilled and tapped for the screw at the end of the mag tube. Very clever and clean!

Great find. Not many of those in circulation. As you saw in that other thread, I converted mine to forend cap and upgraded the wood. I also reamed it to 30-30 Ackley. Great little rifle.
