OD posts here http://forum.m1911.org/ pretty regularly.
Junior is a great guy.
I dont know I would call him liberal just because he's a democrat. Theres moderate & conservative democrats, few & far between these days but I'd call him a conservative democrat that didn't like what the current crop of republicans are doing to the country. I tend to agree but cant see the liberal dem majority doing better.
Anyway its a shame he got run off.

Frank, ditto and amen. This is one of the best posts I've ever read on this, and I'm glad to know ya.sore shoulder wrote:Of course Christians are sinners too, well, at least the ones that dont get translated. Our fortune is having those sins forgiven. The real problem is some peoples sins are more obvious and outward than other peoples sins. This of course allows those with secret sins to point the finger at those others who's shortcomings are more apparent. Now the interesting thing is most of those folks with the more apparent sins are usually painfully aware of their shortcomings due to the holy spirit and their own conscience, and of course those righteous souls who have attained spiritual enlightenment who don't let them forget. This attitude is also the reason a lot of folks give for not going to church, on account of all the hypocrits and sinners in the pews. Egad, sinners in church? Once when I was younger and brought some sinfull behavior to the attention of my pastor and asked him why it was so, his gentle rebuke was this, "it's this thing called sin..." So, I became aware over time that everyone has just as many problems as the other guy, solme are just more apparent than others, and you can be sure the fellow pointing the finger has got some doozies in the closet.Idahoser wrote:Some of the nastiest posts have come from the religious folks.
Mostly not youngsters (well none, really, as far as I could tell).
No way, that's what the left does. We don't need no stinking leftyisms around here to be civil in our disagreements. We just need positive peer pressure. Call BS when it gets personal. I can disagree with you without calling you any names or impuning any of your relatives, I just attacked the idea that I disagree with, all polite and impersonal. So, CENSORSHIP IS THE OPPOSITE OF LIBERTY.

Here it is - may give some light on at least some of what transpired.
Been wondering just what happened to Junior

You cannot put any blame on yourself. All of us need to understand that if we see a post anything like the one pointed toward Junior we need to bring it to your attention with a PM.

I agree. OTOH, there is one subject that SHOULD be 100% "off limits" by group consensus here - and that is Theopolitics... and in particular, Abortion (and its segues... like "stem cells". Nothing but really hard feelings come of it.)Grizz wrote:No way, that's what the left does. We don't need no stinking leftyisms around here to be civil in our disagreements. Arguing that is almost as bad as arguing "Sprinkle" vs "Dunk"...

We have enough issues dealing with the Politics of Gun Controll. We don't need to throw individual, personal, religious beliefs into the mix. Several Wars have been fought over that stuff.

Just keep it simple. Don't issue any personal attacks on other people. If you do, you get warned, if you keep on, you loose your posting priveledge. I've discussed abortion many times here, and to my knowledge I've never personally attacked anyone here. When there is something as serious as human lives being on the line, I personally have to say something or I feel like I have not been true to who I am. Being honest will often land you in the not so popular club but who cares? The only way to go is up
Most of the older forum posters here have been attacked personally at some point. You too OI, which you have handled with class. It's life. You can't even drive a car from point A to point B these days without someone trying to take you out for some percieved insult. All a man can do is take a deep breath, humble himself a little and try not to take it too seriously. If you feel especially froggy in your Christian faith, try and do something kind to that person.
Never say anything here that you wouldn't say to a persons face is another good rule of thumb.
PS: I rarely agreed with Junior, but he seemed to handle himself with class. Hope he returns.

Hey Frank, still around, though less frequent. I do spend the majority of my computer time on 1911 boards. I was getting a little tried of the off topic posts, folks can say "don't read 'em" but there for awhile it didn't leave much else to read.
Then when I do happen by, I find this unfortunate situation with Junior.

I can disagree on an issue without being mean and hateful. I seem to recall reading in some old book that God hates the sin without hating the sinner. In an extreme personal example, I shot and killed a man in the line of duty, but was not mean and hateful while doing so.Greg807 wrote:Rexter it all boils down to weather you think selling fertilized eggs for stem cell research is like giving plasma to pay for A crack addiction. I usually stay away from political and religious topics here; I only read the ones in question here because I wondered what had happened to Junior and his posts. He may have had beliefs different from mine, but I don't remember him running an abortion clinic, or eating babies or even kittens.

That one thread wasn't the only time people took personal shots at Junior. There were other times as well, even though that might have been one of the worst. To take personal shots at someone is a tactic used by the extreme wings on both sides. When they can no longer carry on a meaningful debate using facts they seek to kill the messenger.
It is a shameful and childish act that shouldn't be done by adults. There are times when I have to refer to what an old pastor of mine said once. "Everything you have to say isn't worth hearing."

A couple of observations on the subject at hand:
1) Hindsight is always 20/20
2) The worst offenders/nasty folks did not participate in this thread
3) I have a NO. 3, but decided to not to list it.
4) I hope all of this just in not talk, and you folks will really take others to task for personal attacks WHEN the you agree with the person doing the attacking and disagree with the person receiving the attack. We shall see for it will happen again.

Well, said Charles. But, now, I'm worried, I didn't participate in the thread; I don't recall seein it; but, maybe I am guilty under point #4. Rexster, I'm sure the act needed doing, but know it can prey on you for years after. Thank you for your service. Likewise, I tend to ignore some the more political threads.
As a humorous (or not) aside, my wife once called me "the most prejudiced man on the face of the planet." As it were, I had just attended the newly required racial sensitivity course and was practicing all the new racial epitaths I'd learned in class. I disagreed & I quite correctly informed her that I was not prejudiced, "I HATE everybody, equally."
For some of us, using the "don't write here what you wouldn't say to the person's face", would not be a good policy; for I know little restraint in telling an idiot, that he's an idiot, have a couple of scars to prove that point. Hopefully, I'm just as quick to praise also!
Criticism is best done in private, praise is best received in public. There are times when I'm at a loss as to whether to comment in public, or send a PM. If I've erred in my judgement from time to time, my only excuse is that my hope by making the comment public, someone else can learn to avoid the same err.

Amen to the concept of staying with discussion of lever rifles, plus, I believe, closely related things. Politics can indeed affect firearms rights, so I see why we need to discuss that aspect of politics, but let's please not stray into divisive stuff that has no relation to the rights of firearms owners.
Griff, thanks for the support; thankfully, the incident I mentioned does not prey on me at all. I had no crisis of faith. Jesus could heal the insane, but I was not given that ability, so I protected myself, and more importantly, other children of God who were also present. I was chosen as the instrument to end an errant life, and was probably the one at the scene most able to deal with taking such action. God has not yet given me a burden I cannot handle.

When discussion goes to religion or politics concerning strongly held views in a large group if it can be taken wrong it probably will be by someone and the internet just makes it worse because people will say things that they normally wouldn't and you can't read tone as easily as you can with voice.

Yeah, I miss Junior too. I didn't know what happened to him until Old Savage told me. He seems to not miss a lick of what happens here (Lord knows, I do!). I doubt Junior will come back, but he would be welcomed by me if he did. Maybe its some of the newer unapologetic Trolls we should kick out instead. Thats my vote.

Dear Terry, aka "Capn All Caps". Not sure what I missed here. Perhaps you were responsible for Junior leaving. I know not. I miss a lot of stuff here. I don't support Hillary Clinton at all, and changed my party affiliation to Republican so I could vote in the Republican Primaries. Thompson didn't even make it that far. Bummer. But as a former Democrat, I do have some interest in Obama, despite all the internet slander you guys are constantly trying to heap upon him. But if you want to change people's opinion, and I'm not sure that is even possible as there seems to be some childhood developmemental link between upringing and political party, you have to avoid personal attacks, and just hit them with the facts. Junior deserved better. If you want to attack the Clinton's, it is not hard to do. Bill Clinton's former election campain manager (his own Carl Rove)has a website devoted to what he knows about the Clinton's, and it is pretty damning. Not that I needed that to convince me.
If you guys wonder why the whole *******' world is so *******' tired of Republican rulership, you have no one to blame than your soon to be former President, who blindly supports oil companies, and threatens to veto bills that threaten the oil company's multi-BILLION profits at our expense. Add that to his infractions to civil rights and you wonder why your party is so unpopular? HELLO, Hillary Clinton and Obama are so popular because youre Republican rulership so arrogantly disrgarded public sentiment, and utterly screwed the pooch. Don't blame the Democrats, blame your own failed Republican leadership.
This post is honor of Junior!

Mister Murbach does not need me to defend him. He seems to be as tough as a masonry nail. To be given an capitalized, exclamated pointed tongue lashing by him is uncomfortable but should be considered an honor.
Once upon a time I asked a question about regulating windage on a Ruger Blackhawk that had run out of sight adjustment by turning the barrel a short and curly hairs width. Mister Murbach's reply was that "I JUST NEEDED TO LEARN TO SHOOT A SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER!!!" This exhortaion was not appreciated by me at the time but I learned that he was right. I did need to learn how to shoot it. Now my rear sights are not exactly in the center but are not screwed all the way to the right anymore. I had to swallow my pride and learn to shoot!
Mister Doughty lost the respect of most here when he came out as a Hillary fanatic. I personally was annoyed by the constant whining about photo size. Even after resizing to half as much, he still complained. On the old forum, every time I posted a picture I would say something like: "Those with east german army surplus computers be warned that these pictures may be too large for your equipment to download." To his credit, Mister Doughty's articles at his website are a pleasure to read.

Ray, rest assured you are correct, and Terry "Cap'n All Caps" is as tough as they come. And I do consider him to be a friend, and I think I have the PM's to prove that. But nevertheless, the facts are plain. The Rupublican Party is trying to reinvent itself by nominating a progressive, independant, Republican In Name Only-candidate, because Bush made himself so unpopular. Terry speaks up for himself just fine. Not sure what happened with Junior, or whether he had any part of it, but every board needs a balancing voice to do just that-keep it balenced. And if we were less than gentlemanly to Junior, the fault is ours not his. Who was it who said, and I paraphrase, "I disagree with what he said, but I will die to preserve his right to say it?" or some such? Wasn't this forum founded on the principals of politely disagreeing? Check Paco's rules of the forum. I think it is so.

I would agree that the Republican Party ain't what it used to be; but that doesn't mean Junior's pro-Democrat drivel offered any sort of balance to discussions here. Wrong is wrong, not balanced. I think most here are just conservative, not necessarily Republican. That removes most any Democrat from consideration when it comes to someone we'd vote for(or that I'd vote for, anyway). Clinton and Obama are anti-American, not agents of change. I never personally attacked Junior or wanted him banned; but his anti-Republican, anti-Christian comments weren't thoughtful and balanced, they were just wrong. There are still ideas that are just wrong and that are just right. That isn't 'mean' or bad, it's just the way it is. If you're too open-minded, your brains might fall out.

I'm sorry JR left too, but his politics got on a lot of nerves. Mine too, although I kept myself under control.
I've been voting since I turned 18 in 1970. The first president I voted for was Nixon. In all these years I've NEVER voted for a Democrat. I watched them move from the liberal point of center to the socialist point and wanted nothing to do with it.
I've also watched the Republicans move left from the conservative point of center to where they are now more liberal than the 1960s Democrats were.
With Hilliary we will have a communist in office.
With Obama we will have a Marxist ( a communist ) in office.
With McCain we will have a socialist in office.
There is little difference any more.
The Democrats and the Republicans are just two sides to the corroded coin.
The only thing that really differentiates the two parties is their platforms.
The Democrat platform is blatently anti gun, and socialist.
The Republican platform is not anti gun, although it's leaning to the socialist side now.
WE NEED A NEW ADMINISTRATION, the old one is and has been broken for a long time, but we do not need to put Democrats (communists) in the white house.
And if you Obama or Clinton supporters can't see this, or refuse to see this then feel free to go join JR on the other forum. I'm darn tired of reading all the whining, and complaining that Bush and Republican haters have been doing for the last 8 years. I had more than enough of their attitude when Clinton was in office. That bag of puss should have been jailed and yet he walks free and his witch of a wife is trying to put him back in office.
Get a grip on reality people,
Democrats in office = BAD!
Republicans in office = NOT QUITE AS BAD!
As much as I hate to admit it, we the voters have been placed once again in the position of voting for the lesser of two evils.
This presidential election will come down to McCain vs Clinton, or McCain vs Obama.
And if you can think, if you can look at history, if you can reason; you will see that McCain is the lesser of the two evils.
Now: I'm officially sick to death of this political garbage. Every body has already decided that they are going to vote to destroy this country (vote democrat ), or save it, (vote not democrat). No amount of arguing on this forum will change anybodies minds.
So, rather than loose any more friends I'm going to avoid any more political threads unless I'm specifically invited into them. It's not worth it.
JimT, Hobie, AmBraCol, I suggest you get ready to lock down a bunch of threads. Four years ago it got so bad on another forum I'm on that we had to ban all political posts till after the election.
I suspect with this election being as emotionally charged as it is, we will need to be prepared to do that here.
Joe

Joe

I WILL NEVER LEAVE THE RANTINGS OF THE LOONEY LEFT GO UNCHALLENGED. I WILL NOT LEAVE SOMEONE LIKE JR, NOR ANYONE ELSE ON THIS SITE, GO UNCHALLENGED IF HE PROPOSSES ON THIS SITE THE LEFTWING DIARHEA OF THE MODERN DEMOCRAT PARTY. THAT MAN SUPPORTS PEOPLE WHO ARE DIAMETRICALLY OPPOSED TO EVERYTHING I, AND YOU, HOLD DEAR ABOUT THIS REPUBLIC AND IT'S CONSTITUTION. I HAVE SPENT 48 YEARS FIGHTING THE ANTI-GUNNERS, THE ANTI-CONSTITUTIONALISTS, AND EVERY OTHER GROUP OF WHINING LITTLE PISSANTS WHO HAVE THOROUGHLY INFESTED OUR COUNTRY AND BY 'N' LARGE HOLD EVERYONE HERE IN CONTEMPT.
I DO NOT KNOW JR PERSONALLY BUT I DO KNOW I HOLD LITTLE TRUCK FOR FOLKS SO IGNORENT AS TO BE A DEMOCRAT PARTY MEMBER MUCH PAST THEIR 21st BIRTHDAY. IF YOU CANNOT SEE THROUGH THEIR REDICULOUS BS BY THEN YOU'RE PROBABLY WELL PAST THE POINT OF REDEMPTION. FRANKLY, ONE CANNOT--CANNOT!!!!!--BE A PRACTISING democrat IN THE MODERN DEMOCRAT PARTY AND NOT BE SERIOUSLY DISCOMBOBULATED BETWEEN THE EARS.
JUST REMEMBER THIS : JR IS A RABID SUPPORTER OF HILLERY CLINTON AND HAS PUBLICLY STATED AS MUCH. HILLERY CLINTON, GUYS !!! HE THINKS SHE IS GONNA BE JOAN OF ARC OR SOMETHING IF SHE GETS ELECTED. WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE JR WILL DO WHEN SHE DOES NOT GET THE NOMINATION ?? THINK ABOUT THAT...[ all other democrats here presently are excused from any thinking requirements...]
I WAS ASKED ONCE BY ANOTHER MEMBER IF I WAS GONNA APOLOGIZE TO JR ?? HELL NO !!!! I DID OFFER TO DO SO THOUGH WHEN HIS PARTY APOLOGIZES TO ALL AMERICANS FOR STEALING VAST QUANTITES OF THEIR MONEY AND THEN TRASHING THE CONSTITUTION WITH THEIR LUNATIC LEFT/SOCIALIST/COMMUNIST DRIVEL. I DON'T SPECKT THAT'LL HAPPEN ANYTIME SOON, DO YOU ??
Say, Terry? What do you REALLY feel about the issues? Why are you holding back?

Guys, we've pretty much beat this one into the ground. Junior's gone. OD's here. We've got plenty of different opinions on a wide variety of topics. Folks have been less than civil in their manner of expressing themselves - on both sides of the issues. What's say we move on and work on our communication skills a bit.
No personal attacks, no matter how stupid the other person and their opinions may seem.
Argue the issues, not the personalities.
If the other side seems to be "winning" the argument and you've no more ammunition, DON"T fall back on shooting the messenger - either bow out or get fresh resources.
There's no sense on banning topics - but banning behavior IS something we'll be doing. Keep to the issues and be polite. If you can't - stick with subjects that you CAN do so.
And finally, label topics clearly so folks will have a chance to skip OT and Religion and Humor if they so like.
Thanks. This particular thread is now locked.
