Maybe a reason why ammo is difficult to purchase?

Post by Ray Newman »

“2013 Gun Sales Skyrocketed, Broke Previous Record by Wide Margin

“Amid the relentless push for more gun control in 2013, there were 21,093,273 background checks for firearm purchasers.

“The NRA sent…a breakdown and comparison of this number against the numbers from previous years, and a record-setting trend is evident.

"For example, the number of 2013 background checks is nearly two million more than the previous record – 19,592,303 in 2012 – and it far exceeds the 14,033,824 background checks performed during Obama's first year in office.
***
"The strength of gun sales in 2013 lay in their constancy. The whole year was big rather than just one month or one season. This is no doubt because gun control was pushed all year, not just at the beginning or at the end.

"It is important to note that the 21,093,273 background checks for 2013 do not represent number of guns sold. Background checks are done on gun purchasers, and each purchaser can buy multiple guns. So the overall number of guns sold could have been two or three times the number of background checks – or more."

olloger, were those 2 guns on 1 check Long Guns ? In Ca We used to be able to buy up to 10 long guns on one dros and only one Hand Gun per dros.
That's a lot of background checks, I wonder how many were denied ?

Plus these numbers do not represent the private sales at all.

There are different reasons why it is difficult to purchase an ammo;
1. We have to consider the law of having an ammo
2. A lot are buying with it for personal reasons and business reasons
3. There are people who are sometimes doing hoarding.

there's no such thing as hoarding ammo, just as there is no such thing as hoarding food. be prepared is the scout motto. being unprepared is just plain foolishness....

In the same article they said the #of women shooters had gone up sharply. One women friend told a number of her friends in reporting Xmas presents were talking about guns they received or wanted. She herself was not into shooting at all three years ago and has since bought three handguns, a 22 rifle and three shot guns and taken three or four shooting classes and gone to a number of organized shoots and probably shot at least 25 types of guns. She also has a CCW as does a male friend who shoots with her and also acquired a number of guns in the same time and shot an equal number of guns.

The purchase numbers are actually higher because in some states, I think Texas is one, CHL holders don't need to do an NCIS check.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

Yep.
  • Some buy it whenever possible, just because it is the only time/place/cartridge available, and they anticipate likely further restrictions, based on rational and very real experience.

Some just are buying a 'normal' amount for personal defense or business security, but there are so many 'new' gun owners that each of them buying a couple thousand rounds (minimal amount for function-check of a new firearm, 'wearing-in', etc., plus a reasonable amount of initial practice prior to CCW use) adds up to LOTS of ammo. Even 10 million new 'gun owners' doing this means twenty BILLION rounds of ammo added to the annual sales.

And yes, there are many who just want to have ten times as much as they personally are likely to need, 'just because', or just as an investment for financial or 'security' reasons or for barter.
Most people probably have some combination of all three, or more, reasons...
