Winchester 1897

Post by shaman »

This may be an odd subject to bring up, but it's Friday, and I'm bored at work.

Y'all know the Winchester 1897, right? I've got one. It was made in 1902, the year Grandpa Whitey was born. Grandpa mowed a neighbor's grass for a whole summer and got it as payment when he was 12. I've hunted squirrels with it for 30 years. I was putting it up for the season last night, and I was thinking about something.

Did Browning or Winchester ever re-use the hammer design on any other firearm? I really love the feel of that hammer. I love the way it comes back to half-cock. I love how little effort it takes to bring it to full cock. I'm just wondering if they ever worked that into the design of a lever-action rifle. If so, could you point me in the right direction.

Both the '92 and the '86 have about the same feel to me.

Okay cool! I'll have to put those on my ever-widening list.

Thanks!
