New Browning 86 carbine.

Post by Pitchy »

Member Pshort bought this Browning 86 carbine new a while back and I`ve been drooling over it since he showed it to me. :)
So being the great guy he is he thought I should have it and allowed me to do some trading with him and come to an agreement and I now own it.
I have the rifle version also that I bought new in 86, both are going to and have been shooters and I love them both.
Thanks Paul. :D

We have been on the road again and the same continuing messed up life but are home again for a while anyway so can log in more.
I stood where Billy Dixon took the famous 1,500 yard shot in Tx the other day and will post pics in another thread.

The best of both worlds - it's great that you can enjoy both, Pitchy.

Ya gonna try an "Adobe Walls" shot ?

Thanks Hobie, it`s a little heavy but a heck of a lot lighter than the rifle for carrying compared to my Marlin Cowboy.
It came with a Marbles tang sight also but I removed it for now and might put it on my 76.

BTW, the Barlow sits on my desk as the general use office knife. Last opened a package from Sixgun. :)

Thanks tman 8)
Haven`t shot it much, seeing the ladder sight is not adjustable for elevation I was pleased to find out it shot a couple inch high at 50 yards using my handload 8)

Now that's really nice, Pitchy. Congrats for getting it. Have an idea you're gonna love it. I have a fondness for the Browning repros. Never saw one that didn't have great fit and finish.
My Browing Model 71 was really a great rifle. Probably shouldn't have sold it, but couldn't find suitable game in my neck of the woods to justify keeping it. The buyer will, however, as he hunts the mountains and high desert country of New Mexico. More opportunity to go after bigger game there than here.

Pitchy, in my books, that is the most desirable modern 1886. No tang safety, no rebounding hammer and in a carbine version. Looks like yours has some nice figuring on the buttstock. I have one as well. It is the only modern gun I refuse to part with.

Mine likes the Hornaday 325 grain flextip factory load. They are dead at 100 yards with the ladder sight down.

Those things will take quite a load. I shot about a thousands rounds through one using all kinds of cast bullets and finally settled on a mess of RL7 and a 375 cast bullet. Give the gun to my son and he busted a couple of elk with it with that 375 NEI GC at 1700.------6
