Scooter's Great Adventure

Post by Gobblerforge »

Scooter got to go on vacation this summer and took the wife and I along to drive and take pictures. It's been an active two weeks covering some 12 or more states and some 5 thousand miles. Man, what a trip.
We started by going to the motorcycle museum in Iowa.
Image
Then we went up to Minnisoooooota and hunted up our own Pitchy and his dear wife, Norma. We stayed for two nights and got in a couple rides.

Then we went out to the Black Hills and Badlands area.

In Cody we watched a evening play of old west characters.

Calamity Jane.

Image
We got to see Yellowstone.

A little breakfast.

On the road.

That's just a highlight but it has been a great trip.

Fantastic pictures. Glad you had a great time. Nothing compares to the western part of the country.
Were you able to go see Mike and Frank's American Pickers store in Iowa?

Thats just great! I made much of the same trip but its been 45 years ago. Did it solo in bad weather. California to wisconsin, tetons etc. Had a 1963 FL. Now I cant afford a harley and it wouldnt be big enough even if I couled. We are hugemongus. I was in jackson wyoming, called a GF that was watching my house. She said someone got in ande stold all my guns! I rode from jackson back to tuhunga california 1,000 miles in 24 hours. Bucked a snow drift in a mountain pass out of jackson, got to salt lake, needed a rear tire and was almost broke. Bought a recap, spent hours trying to put it on and the shop wanted to close, took pity on me and mounted it. Got to st george ut and it was so hot I was rideing in my t shirt now at night. Got to whiskey petes cal/nev border and heard news bobby kennedy was shot. Got home about 7 am, left the bike packed, walked in a crouch to bed. Girlfriend didnt know I had hid all but one gun, I had thought I told her, Lost a ruger single six I had left her for protection. A week later that recap split all the way around and wiped out my wireing under the rear fender. Didnt dump it though.
Me and that 63 harley in that era. I had a couple more after that. The fella I sold this one to got killed on it.

Fantastic trip. Well done! Great pics. Love the pup pics too! Looks like a few of us have vans set for touring. I picked up a ford transit recently and started a hauling and transport business. Got it fixed up inside to allow me a place to sleep. In two months I've logged 12k miles, doing 30 deliveries, mostly pets and motor cycles and personal water craft. Nice to see the country from the road. Looks like you did it really nicely.
