.

A little, Hobie - I've gone through it, every now & then. (I've hunted & vacationed in Northern/Central Maine since the late 60's, when I was discharged from the service).

It's a small-to-medium sized city now (it used to be a town, IIRC) in Central Maine, with the usual institutions & amenities - but one can drive "out to the country" in less then 30mins.

Whatcha wanna know ?

I worked up there for about a year.

In Somerset County, which is mostly rural and poor.

The Sappi Paper Mill, tand he New Balance shoe factory
are the two big industries left. There used to be quite a
number of shoe factories and small woodworking outfits,
but a lot of that work has gone to China. They have a HUGE
State Fair which is going on as we speak. There's a big dam
on the Kennebec River right in town, which is spectacular
during times of heavy water.

What else do you want to know?
