OT: Lets see those military long guns

Post by JReed »

Well now that winter is here again it is time to bring back the "Lets see" series.

So lets start this one with military rifles.

This is a NYS 1871 Remington Rolling Block in 45-70.
Image

1942 Izzy manufacture Mosin Naggant 91/30
Image

Savage manufacture Lee Enfield No4 Mk1*
Image

I still haven't had a chance to shoot the 91/30 I will have to fix that but the other 2 are straight shooters.

I think I may have done this one last winter but got tired of searching for it. I know some of you are seriously into MilSurp so lets see this years crop.

Took some hasty pics. couple Mausers, couple Enfields, couple SKSs,a Krag,a trapdoor,a 98 Mauser in 30-06-sporterized in the late 60s, don't think it is a Rigsby though. I think thats it.

Jeremy, Thats a nice Savage Enfield you have there. Looks 99% :D

I'm a Winchester guy but..........I have managed to sang a few military items over the years. I do have a couple of SKS's and a kick-butt 03A3 Smith Carona.

In this bunch is an original 1878 Sharps Borchardt in 45-70. (top one) The bottom one is an unfired 1884 Trapdoor.

Good grief! You guys have some outstanding examples and/or rare military long guns! I only have two, my Savage-made Enfield and of course my old 71/84 Mauser that everyone knows. Yawn. -Tutt

Tutt I LOVE that 71/84! I hope to get one some day as well.

Here's a few from my modest collection, all bottom feeders and bargain basement types, but I enjoy them as do my boys:

Of course the top "Springfield" is made in Italy, and the bottom one isn't a Springfield either, and is all USGI save for the receiver. If that counts then this should count.

Image

Hmmm... this is tough. I have a converted to sporter type rolling block, and a bubba'd Krag, and another "sporterized" Martini, are they photo worthy under the topic guidelines?

I have a Schmidt-Rubin, MAS-36, a Swedish Mauser, an Arisaka, and one Mosin left, but no photos of them. An M1 carbine with no posting worthy photos.

Then there's pretend military rifles and a bunch of variations of the same type.

This thread has made me regret letting four Enfields go over the years, one was a mint Savage still greased up but someone wanted it more than me and gave me a good price. The one I don't really regret is a Jungle Carbine I swapped for a NIB Ruger Bisley Blackhawk in .357, still got it :D :D :D

There's sure are some nice looking military guns here guys :D Texas Pete---you 'da man!!

The sad part is the many thousands of young boys who gave their lives so we can sit here and talk/own/shoot/collect/show off these weapons. We may have a retart in the White House, but the "meat and potatoes" of this country is going strong. Let the revolution begin! :D

Jason, you have been holding out on us. Nice guns dude!---------Sixgun

Nice, well made videos you made there, Mr. Collection. :D Are you guys from Czechoslovakia? I see you cast bullets too. Tell us about gun ownership there.

I noticed in your Austrian Wanzel, you use a shotgun shell with a cast bullet. Very neat...

I can see your sweetheart do not like to shoot prone. Hurt her shoulder. Tell us more-----------------Sixgun

Thank you...
I am from Slovakia. Czechoslovakia in 1989 split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Historic weapons made by the end of 1890 are are free to sell a person over 18 years old.
If the gun made after 1890, one needs weapons license.

Wanted to show my collection...but photobucket locks up my computer. Then again, everything online has been locking up my computer.

Suffice to say, would have liked to show you my German ML era 1871, 1884, 1888, 98K etc
Mosin-Nagants, TD's, Swede's, Yugo's, US Springfields (in addition to TD's), Kropatschek, etc, etc.

But, not computer savy enough to get this old beast working with all the new flash junk.

OK....here's mine.
Another display of Old Meets New.
I didn't see folks posting up shotguns here..!! I included my current Ithaca 37 M&P. One like it served me well in jungle environments. This one lives next to my bed, along with the "just-in-case" bandoleer of No. 4 Buck.
Of course....for all around FUN..it's hard to beat the Springfield 1873 Trapdoor. This one is a "family rifle" having been in my family going on 100 years and counting. She's still throwing BIG chunks of lead downrange with authority and much better than "minute-of-deer" precision. 8)

You'll all recognize the top of the order....I did the photo with the some of the web gear I used during the war in Rhodesia. The chest carry unit was originally for 6-20 rd magazines for my FN. We switched over to M-16's for purely tactical reasons. When we did, we discovered that the same mag. carrier will hold 2- 20 rd. M-16 mags in each pouch for a total of 120 rds. on my chest. In addition, on my web belt, I carried the 4/20's pouch and 2 of the 3/30's pouches.
With the 30 in the rifle, that let me carry 410 rds. of 5.56 ammo on bush patrol. When you're in a combat environment where help isn't always a radio call away...well, you know.

Image

I enjoy the Trapdoor often. The Ithaca gets out now and then for some fun shooting too.
As far as the M4 and all that goes with it....fun to shoot now and then also, BUT...it's the one I PRAY I never have to retrieve FOR REAL.
